Tomb Raider: Legend getting GameCubed

Eidos confirms Lara Croft is coming to Nintendo's current-generation console this fall.

With Tomb Raider: Legend coming to the Xbox 360, speculation was rife that the game might be ported to another next-generation console. While that may still happen, it has now been confirmed that Lara Croft's latest adventure will be coming to another current-generation console.

Today, Eidos reps confirmed to GameSpot that it is readying a version of Tomb Raider: Legend for the GameCube. When the game is released this fall, it will mark the series' debut on the GameCube--or any Nintendo console for that matter. It will, however, be the fourth Tomb Raider game for a Nintendo platform, after Tomb Raider: The Prophecy (Game Boy Advance, 2002), Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword (Game Boy Color, 2001), and Tomb Raider (Game Boy Color, 2000).

Having gone gold last week, Tomb Raider: Legend is set for release on April 11, for the PC, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 2. The next-gen edition will sell for $59.99, the current-gen console versions for $49.99, and the PC edition for $39.99. A PlayStation Portable version of the game is due later in the year. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's recent hands-on preview.

Whatever. It wasn't that great of a series, and it isn't that great of an addition. Laura was only popular because of her sex appeal. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

Of course it's cool that the game is converted to Gamecube, didn't expect it to. But because of PS2,XBOX and PC could use DVD and GC not, I have a fear that the game will be smaller on GC. Let's hope not.

Well... I loved the PS2 and PC versions of the game... I think GameCube users (including myself ^^) will be delighted with this version.

What's the point of releasing it so late, when the Revolution and PS3 would be out by then?

The cube is ending the end of its life and now publishers want to started releasing all of these games for it. Ironic

For those who ask who would by it for the GC? People who dont have the latest and greatest PC with a top of the line graphics card, and do own a GC, and no other console (afterall the GC is considerably cheaper than the rest)... I'm not a TR fan but i dont see what there is to complain about...

Well, I have a choice to make . . . I could buy it for the new PC that I just made (pretty awesome I might add), or get it for GC. PC or GC . . . dang. I really want to support their decision to make it for the cube, but I wonder which input I would like better. Mouse & board or the GC pad? Grr . . . I'll have to decide when they "review" it. Or at least get an impression of how well it plays . . .

A game for the GameCube? Well, I'll be damned. Unfortunately, it seems few people care about the 'Cube any more. Maybe this will change their opinion. Or maybe not.

MadonnaProject sed "the question is: WHO IS GOING TO BUY IT? and just what content will they leave out of the gamecube version? because come on, if its a FULL version that stands head to head with the ps2, xbox and even the psp version then im going to get the xbox version anyways. because i cant be a nintendo fan and do something everyone else does. come on make the game different. take out a few levels. we all know people are sick of normal gaming methods and just want games to play for 20 minutes and then run back to their HECTIC HECTIC lives." lol finally sum one sed it

Right. Fall. Then they'll complain the game didn't sell well on GC and what not, but how would it sell at all with the game being released 5+ months before on other platforms? They might have as well not bothered at all. Thanks but no Eidos.

The sales figures: Tomb Raider 7 on PS2, PC, Xbox, Xbox 360, PSP = Success. Tomb Raider 7 on Gamecube = Titanic.

I think its a great move except that coz it's being released on all other consoles before the gamecube it probably won't do as well as it could have IMO, but still is great news though, haven't played tomb raider since tomb raider 3 on the PC lol

BlankXII
BlankXII

It's being released months after all the other versions. With the track record of other console-to-Gamecube ports, it won't have any extra features. And by then, the Revolution will most likely be out. Yet game companies wonder why Gamecube versions sell the least generally? They should at least create a whole new Tomb Raider, even better if it were for the Revolution. But didn't Eidos abandon the 'cube years ago after poor sales of Hitman 2 (which this seems to be following in the same footsteps - a game released months after the PS2, Xbox and PC versions, which had already sold enough copies by then for everyone that wants to play the game to own it, to come out on a seperate platform with next-to-no special features AND at a higher price, assuming the other versions got price drops)? This is a really stupid buisness decision.

It's a shame that this won't sell well... Not even sure why they bothered.

It's good to see that the GameCube is still getting some support. This also means that TR:Legend will work on the revolution. :)

Phazevariance

I think they probably kept all the special effects in but are only viewable on the Revolution when you put it in. And the GC will have an "effect dulled" version. Since they both use the same API's that would be pretty easy to do.

Er, why were so many messages on the first page deleted? It made it virtually unreadable. Well, thats the FCC for ya! I think this is a great treat for Gamecube owners. I just hope its owners won't despair due to a lack of Italian plumbers, pointy-eared-yet-delayed elves and attractive women in cyborg suits. Oh, and animals that start wars with bug nets, and maintain somewhat conspicuous breeding habits. BUY IT, GUYS! AND GALS!
