Tom Hardy's Favorite Venom Scenes Aren't In The Final Film

Eddie and Venom's wacky hijinks have apparently been cut off at their gooey, ooze-covered knees.

Sony's Venom solo film is shaping up to be a strange animal indeed. From the surprise announcement of Tom Hardy's casting to its rather head-scratching lack of Marvel Cinematic Universe connection, Venom feels a bit like a pop culture anomaly--a movie that somehow slipped (oozed?) through the cracks.

But apparently, not all of Venom's goo-covered footage made it into the final version of the film. In an interview with ComicBooksExplained, Hardy admitted that his favorite scenes to film "aren't in the movie." He went on to explain, "There are like 30 to 40 minutes worth of scenes that aren’t in this movie... all of them. Mad puppeteering scenes, dark comedy scenes. You know what I mean? They just never made it in."

Now Playing: Who The Hell Is Venom?

Certainly, no film is going to get made without sacrificing a few scenes to the cutting room floor, but superhero flicks in particular seem to cause waves whenever someone admits to a scene being scrapped. It certainly doesn't sound like Hardy's missing moments were all that meaty plot-wise--the trailers have featured no shortage of "dark comedy scenes" and "mad puppeteering," but as with any major franchise, there's always a chance that Venom diehards will leave the theater clamoring for a new cut.

Based on the fan-favorite Marvel comics Spider-Man spin-off, Venom tells the story of Eddie Brock (Hardy), an investigative journalist whose luck goes from bad to worse when he begins fixating on taking down the shady Life Foundation, a bio-engineering firm run by Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed). Brock's efforts saddle him with an alien symbiote named Venom, who is able to take over and control his body with a black, tar-like outer shell. Officially, it's the first movie in Sony's attempt at building a Marvel film universe that doesn't directly tie into the overarching MCU--but that hasn't stopped Venom's cast and crew from teasing the potential for a crossover somewhere in the future.
