Titanfall won't have a season pass, or split-screen, but it might include some dinosaurs [UPDATE]

[UPDATE] Game might actually have a season pass after all.

[UPDATE] Respawn has since confirmed that Titanfall might actually have a DLC season pass.

The original story is below.

Titanfall will not feature a season pass, developer Respawn Entertainment has confirmed. It also won't feature a split-screen mode. But it might just contain dinosaurs.

Many publishers have embraced the season pass mechanic as a way of selling a game's entire amount of DLC upfront at the launch of a title, with the tactic especially prevalent across shooters. EA has made Battlefield Premium a major part of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, for instance.

Dinosaurs, however, are reported to crop up in the intro of The Art of Titanfall book. "Wall running ninjas? Check. Giant robots? Check. Warping spaceships? Check. Dinosaurs? Of course," reads a quote attributed to game director Steve Fukuda. The same book also features a whole bunch of monsters.

As for the prospect of Titanfall DLC, EA has said it's in the planning stages. "We're planning extra content already for the product," said EA CEO Andrew Wilson on Titanfall during the company's last financial report, "but in the nature of the live service, I think that, that will evolve over time as we see how the player base evolves through the year."

Titanfall will launch on Xbox One and PC on March 11. The Xbox 360 version will be released on March 25.

A $60 next generation game that doesn't have a single player campaign, no full HD, no split screen mode (weird seeing it's suppose to be a multi-player game) and may require a season pass. Dang! Hardcore gamers now a days will accept any half baked game thrown at them as long as they get to hold a gun!

monsters are monsters, Dinosaurs are a Clade of animals that existed from the mid Triassic to the end of the Cretaceous for about 150 million years. those space thingies may look like dinosaurs, but they sure as hell aren't dinosaurs...

stupid ignorant mammals!

Lists just grows and grows for all the things it doesn't have....the features are so bare bones that it looks like a free-to-play game. They are certainly promoting it like a AAA title, but for me a AAA title has to have SP, MP, and split-screen for that honour.

If a game totes DLC and "season pass" crap, I don't buy it. Pretty simple.

"Season passes" it just a sneaky way of charging people 100$ for a game by cutting content already made within the development budget for resale, especially despicable considering 60$ is an already inflated price. EA's monopoly on gaming enables these and other shady and possibly illegal practices the FTC needs to sue them but Im not sure there is such a thing as regulation and consumer protection anymore so probably wont.

I think the main selling point for season passes is that gamers will be able to purchase DLC at a discounted rate. So pretty much EA is saying that if enough people are interested in this game, and its DLC, a season pass may be in order. If that is the case then early adopters will be ripped off. While those that wait and see will be awarded with cheaper DLC....I'm getting a case of BF3 Premium deja vu here.

Psfanboys fear always online games because they constantly keep getting shit on by soe. i'm still playing halo 3 on my 360 if i want. sony shut down gt5 to boost sales of gt6. shut down mag and resistance online. they just don't have the infrastructure or money to hold up. glad i got my x1.

Titanfall is amazing. Adding dinosaurs is like winning the lottery then getting a bikini inspector job.

Sony closed online for GT5 just after 3 years.  That is messed up.  What a spit in the face to their fans.

NO great story.... NO splitscreen.... and a full $60 game... .. take away all the hype and media...

its like modern warfare

minus the great story

minus the great couch co-op during gaming parties

minus any extra bonuses for pre-ordering....

its like the a big robbery...and happens to be together with microsoft & EA....

i did find the beta fun but... just not over $40... isnt any journalist protesting?

i mean what happens when servers are all dead in about 5 yrs... will this game be worthless without even a story to play? too worthless even have a local fun when its part of your games library in 2019?

I just feel this game is a remnant part of Microsoft's always online, no games sharing policy...

And it wasn't expensive! I bought it here: goo.gl/MZzHWS

@cubachino Nothing ever says that it requires a season pass. I think you're referring to an online pass, which EA doesn't do anymore and Respawn has said Titanfall definitely WILL NOT have.

@toecutter00  Those seem like pretty stupid and arbitrary "must-haves" for a game to be AAA...  I mean a game could easily have all those things, but only one character model, and 4 weapons, and 3 maps...

There are also amazing games out there that don't have both a SP and a MP component... generally the best SP or MP games available follow this path.

This game really does seem like it'd lend itself well to split-screen though,  but I'd wager technical limitations is the main reason behind not including in for the consoles.  Remember split screen on some (most?) N64 titles where the frame-rate would drop to ridiculous levels?  Yea, that doesn't fly anymore...

@jimmy_russell   You know the game still has DLC...?  You just won't be able to save money buy buying them all at once....

What an awesome strategy!

@thall785  Hey they shut down halo 2 to boost sales of halo 3 that shit will start happening on our 360's as well.

@thall785  Wanna play some Rainbow Six on Xbox original?\

Oh, wait...  you can't play ANYTHING online on Xbox anymore...  not sure why you think the same won't happen with x360 soon enough.

Aaronp2k

@thall785  this gen will be different. for a start ps4 has more customers and I'd wager a large number of them will be playing planet side 2 and everquest next. also a large number are already playing dc universe online. they won't be getting shut down.

@chetram  You know what it still has? Great and fresh gameplay, THAT is where all the hype is coming from. That is what will make this game stand strong even 2 years after release.  Honestly, if the gameplay is good, then none of that stuff you mention should really matter

How do you know about the story? Oh that's right you don't.

I likely will not have any of my current Xbox One games in my library by 2019, not even Titanfall or Destiny. But that does not mean that these games are not worth buying and playing right now. I think you may be selling this game short to simple dismiss it as “Titanfall of Duty”. The choice is yours of coarse on what games you want to buy with your own money, you must decide if this game is worth the cost of admission so to speak. But if you do not get it in my opinion anyway you will probably be missing out on a great gaming experience.

huerito323
huerito323

@chetram  It's been like 7 years since Halo 3 and thousands of people are still playing it. MMO's like Warcraft aren't played for the story, and it's extremely popular even though you have to pay monthly fee's. If you give people a fun addicting video game, that's all that matters. Not everything has to have an amazing story.

Titanfall has a story, and you can't judge it yet because you have no experienced it.

I guess I should have said EA's monopoly on console gaming but yeah Steam has plenty of pricefixing and ripoffs, Steambots arent old enough to remember when you could buy and trade used PC games and didnt need Steam DRM to play. No Steam is not cheap.

@nl_skipper @thall785  what a dumb comparison. the ps3 is still "alive" try going online on the ps2...that's an accurate comparison

@huerito323 @chetram

I do play wow strictly because of lore along with any game i own, if they had no story or an abysmal one at that then it won't find a room on my shelf/HDD (i despise mindless shooting/slaying along with multiplayer games i simply play for SP) So what I'm trying to say is don't generalize.

What i think he meant was that there is no campaign or a story line if there was then its only for explaining your purpose in fighting and that's it, basically covered by a 1-2 page back story, nothing visual.

toecutter00
toecutter00

@sladakrobot It has "no great story" because there is no single player campaign, thus no story.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@guardianofhonor   You CAN trade/sell digital games too, it's as simple as tying games to specific accounts and selling the account entirely, it's not hard to do, just a different method.

90% of people who sell used games just sell them to a business that turns around and gets rich off the backs of developers and gamers desperate to get a bit of spare change, I don't exactly support that market anyway.

thall785
thall785

@nl_skipper @thall785  if five bucks a month is killing you then don't play video games. get off your ass and get another job.i'll gladly pay that so i only have to hear the people I WANT TO TALK TO. as opposed to the racists the childish and the annoying. price justified.

nl_skipper

@thall785  I get that you need to justify all those years or months paying for Live...  I had Live for a time as well, but realized what an utter rip off it is.

A fine day to you as well, good sir.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@thall785  PS4 has party chat,  I don't think PS3 does, but missing a single feature for $60 less a year is acceptable to most.  And yes, your personal info probably has been stolen, just not on Live...

Party chat is not worth an entire subscription service... lol,  try TS, it's free... not on console I know.. but that's not my point, paying $60 for Live and thinking party chat makes that all worthwhile is just laugable

thall785
thall785

@nl_skipper @thall785  virtually the same...WITH NO PARTY CHAT. only people who don't have a 360 and use it day to day say that. party chat is a game changer. besides xbl is way more reliable and my personal info hasn't been stolen.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@thall785

Using a single example of why SOE isn't as good as Live is just a laugh...  they're both essentially the same, except PS online is free, and if you pay you get good games for free.  Live always costs money, costs more money, gives you worse games for free, and is doomed to the same end as all these online services, they are ALL going offline eventually.

toecutter00
toecutter00

@jimmy_russell  Yes...imagine, someone out there enjoys the same hobby as you, but for different reasons. Not everyone is into competitive game and furthermore  the stats prove that the ones who do aren't considered real gamers because they don't play any other type of game. So next time, before you go out of your way to insult someone for no good reason (wonderful display of pettiness, BTW) get some facts straight.
