Titanfall Update Data Points to New Game Modes Like Titan Tag

A user has uncovered hidden data that may have revealed in-development multiplayer game modes.

The latest update for Titanfall reportedly contains references to as-of-yet unannounced game modes that developer Respawn Entertainment may be planning to release, according to one fan's findings.

A post on NeoGAF by user RazorUK states that the "June patch has added new text and script related to new game modes." He or she was able to glean some details about these new modes, but adds "that this is work in progress data and Respawn may change or not implement these game modes later."

Along with references to the new modes Respawn has already announced--Marked for Death and Wingman Last Titan Standing--several additional new modes are named. Some of these also have related text, presumably which will be shown on-screen at various points during the game.

The list of new modes, along with descriptions:

  • Titan Tag -- no description
  • Capture the Titan -- Capture the Titan and bring it to your base.
  • Bodyguard (Titan Escort) -- no description
  • Big Brother -- Attack and defend the control panel.

The related text for Capture the Titan doesn't offer anything of interest, but Capture the Titan and Bodyguard are connected with the terms guard, secure, hold, steal, and intercept, which all sound like various objectives you'll have to tackle. More interesting is the related text for Big Brother, which has phrases like, "The virus has been launched," and "Hack the panel before it finishes."

As RazorUK noted, there is no guarantee that any of this will make it into the game intact (if at all), although this does provide us with some insight into the types of modes Respawn may be considering.

It was suggested that more modes were on the way when the Featured Game Mode playlist was introduced in the June update. Respawn said that the playlist would offer modes "for a limited time only" beginning with Marked for Death and then Wingman Last Titan Standing. Two modes hardly seemed like enough to sustain a playlist positioned as one offering new content, and we know there is a desire to keep the game supported with new content for a long time to come, so more game modes seem like a safe bet even without this uncovered data.

Do any of these new modes sound intriguing to you? What kind of modes would you like to see introduced to Titanfall? Let us know in the comments.

Tone down the stupid jump kick that seems to be a one move kill where someone can run through bullets showering down on them to kill you.

Could maybe introduce a hand combat 'sidearm' and / or a temporary pilot shield.

Titanfall is a great multiplayer, there is no FPS like it, the movement and maneuverability is superb and the Titan adds tons of fun especially now with the titan burn cards. The continuous support for the game proves that Respawn do care, unlike BF4, CoD or any other current FPS.

people complain about bots but it ads a strategy you wont find in other fps, you can hide in with the bot so its a bit more confusing for the enemy to focus on you gives you an edge.

It doesn't play or feel like a next gen game ported to the 360. It feels like a 360 game ported to the Xone and PC.

I dont think this game is doing to well but maybe Titan Fall 2 will be better. The only time I hear about this game is on adds. Non of my friends are playing it. Its clearly not the next GOW or Halo franchise that Microsoft wanted it to be.

New titans and weapons would be cool. But i think Respawn wouldn't mess with the game balance after all. I really miss more variety of futuristic weapons.

they could include a decent campaign mode...or more than a few bots to shoot in a match...

One of the many reasons Titanfall is garbage, they released a half-finished, low content, multiplayer only game 6 months before it was ready and charge full retail price. Now start filling in what should have been launch content using the user base as beta testers and charging to get more than the half dozen maps they shipped with.  For other reasons Titanfall is grabage see:

1) 75%+ of targets are braindead AIs.

2) No mods, no custom servers, no custom games and abysmal matchmaking.
3) Runs like crap on the best optimized engine in gaming (Source).

4) etc...

No wonder this game is DOA on the PC and hemorrhaging users on XBone

Wow people still care about this game? must be dry on the xbone.

This is actually a bit disappointing because the Campaign (and hence the story) ties up only the existing game modes. If these game modes are actually introduced, they could have been fitted in well with the existing campaign storylines.

Or you get shot down in a blaze of glory with them as the group of you stands out, he he. Anyway, I like them as a newby to multiplayer gaming as they give me target practice while I figure out how to kill more than a couple of pilots per game.

@80sgamerftw I don't get your reasoning. In fact I don't even know what you said. People like you just seem to want to throw the phrase "next gen"

@dfuknb its still doing ok. it will probably sell around 2m units when all is said and done.

but once destiny drops and alot of other great multiplat games come later in the year. titanfall will be completely dead.

@DariusMKN Maybe weapons, but I doubt they are going to add another titan. The only way to add a titan is to change the characteristics of all 3, and balance 4 titans, which is probably something we are going to see in the next installment.

What about 'average Joe' Titan that is even across damage, shield and speed.

@Bgrngod @everson_rm I'll add - piss poor coding on the PC, runs like crap on the best optimized engine in gaming, truly abysmal matchmaking system, no custom content or mods on the PC, no dedicated servers, and numerous other issues.

@SerOlmy @Bgrngod @everson_rm uhhhhhhhhh, not sure what you are talking about, I have over 200 hours clocked on PC with this game, the engine and game run just fine.

Though there should be dedicated servers, and the matchmaking is horrendous.

Still a very fun game though
