Respawn Entertainment's multiplayer-focused shooter Titanfall is currently free to download and play on Origin for a period of 48 hours. The freebie is part of Electronic Arts' new "Game Time" program, which unlocks the entire Titanfall experience--not just a demo version of the game.

The Game Time clock begins when you start the game for the first time and runs down in real time, meaning the clock will continue to tick when you get up to take a break. In other words, it's not 48 hours of straight gametime. Game Time for Titanfall is rolling out now across the world over the next several hours, so if it's not available yet in your market, it will be soon, EA says.

If you decide to purchase Titanfall when the 48 hours in up, you don't need to worry about starting over, as your entire progress is saved, allowing you to pick up right where you left off.

EA didn't say which games it plans to offer as part of the Game Time promotion in the future, but these titles will appear on Origin's Free Games page. Though Titanfall is available to play for free for 48 hours, EA says Game Time duration will vary by game.

Game Time is the second goodwill program EA has launched for Origin this year. It follows Origin's "On the House" promotion, which offers up a free game to keep. The current free game is PopCap's casual strategy game Peggle. Others have included Battlefield 3 and Dead Space.
