Titanfall goes retro in these classic arcade games, play the first one now

"8-bit is better with a Titan"; boasts Titanfall Arcade description; Missile Command and Centipede versions on the way.

As part of the marketing campaign for next week's much-anticipated multiplayer shooter Titanfall, Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment have launched the Titanfall Arcade.

Right now, the special website lets you play an 8-bit Flash-based version of Atari's Asteroids with a Titanfall Twist. Instead of controlling a spaceship, you control a Titan. Two other Atari games are featured in the Titanfall Arcade (Missile Command and Centipede) but they aren't playable just yet. Presumably they will be later on this week.

"8-bit is better with a Titan," the website reads.

Developed by a team of former Call of Duty developers including Infinity Ward cofounder Vince Zampella, Titanfall launches March 11 for Xbox One and PC. An Xbox 360 version--developed externally by Bluepoint Games--will launch on March 25. For more on Titanfall, check out GameSpot's interview with Zampella below.

Can't wait until this turd of a game is finally fully squeezed out so I never have to hear about it ever again.

@VakarianGirl @guardianofhonor  i heard that eventually they will but they aren't right out the gate because they much rather have it run smother then have a game that looks pretty but runs like crap. so in time.

I am so excited for this game my mother in law (bless her heart)  is going to take my 2 year old for the day so I can enjoy launch day.

@Ahiru-San @adub424Hint - try making the phone call with your head arched right back (look at the ceiling or something). It stretches your vocal cords and sends a rush of blood to the rear hemispheres of the brain, making you sound hoarse and a bit vague without sounding put on.

Works like a charm, and it can be put down to 'a heavy cold' or 'one of them flu things'.

After spending my entire work life turning into work ill and feeling like crap all day while others just got away with murder, I felt it was time to get creative..

@adub424 Umm, launch days for heavily-multiplayer games almost never work out well.

do we really need 15 articles a day about titanfall. Over-hyped much?

@shinjuki You essentially wasted your time by responding to him then judging by your logic? why did you feel it was a necessity..

Yes, but what does Bo Dietl have to say about it? Also, why is this website so laggy after they "improved" it by turning it into a GiantBomb clone?

If developers keep being sued, suing, laying off, employees quitting, firing, and going bankrupt all we will be playing will be 8 bit.

I like when games do that, but that idea is now being over-used...

As if 6 vs 6, bots, and 792p wasn't "retro" enough already.

Good or not EA bet on the wrong horse. I just hope for them the brown envelope MS passed under the table was thick enough.

@muffins3232 @RJH_420 @thefinalzapkeet @MrMojoRisin70  I'm not sure if the movement mechanics really differentiate it all that much from the typical modern shooter, such as CoD.  For me the overall style was still the same, just faster.  Admittedly I am pretty slow compared to most modern shooter players so extreme movements and high speed don't appeal to me.  I much prefer the satisfaction of successfully employing somewhat realistic traditional tactics, but the subgenre that offers that is pretty much dead, at least in the AAA space.

On the 6v6, at least for the mode where you control points, I found it to be a poor experience.  With 3 points and 6 players, there's virtually no defending.  It's hard enough to find people willing to take on defense roles in a game like Battlefield with dozens of players, with 6 it will be even worse.  However, I was pleased to see that the game was giving me rewards for defending the points.

I am not planning to buy Titanfall at this time.  I have not really been a fan of modern shooters for some time now, and for me Titanfall is very much the same formula that continues to be mostly unappealing to me.

@RJH_420 @thefinalzapkeet@MrMojoRisin70 its only like CoD if you play it like you would CoD. I'm guessing you really didnt try it out. it isnt like your normal CoD/BF shooter at all when you get the hang of it and play it like TF running up walls and jumping on rooftops not to mention playing as or fighting titans.

@muffins3232 @RJH_420 @thefinalzapkeet @MrMojoRisin70  true and i know ppl who r gonna buy this game will always defend it but eventually just like every other shooter people will start camping the only difference is in this game they will have more rooftops to camp and side of buildings will also b a funny place to camp and kill ppl

@MrMojoRisin70 let me guess, you've never played the game?  it works well for what it is, and it's unique.  Sorry that you want everything to be a call of duty clone

I played the demo all the way up to level 14 and then some and I know full of BS. It's nothing like call of duty.

Probably was. Only envelope filled with papers Sony could give them would be a bunch of pink slips.

I've actually never played a Call of Duty game.

I just know overhyped crap when I see it.

Nice try, though.

Microsoft lawyers also just issued a "cease and desist" order to Atari claiming asteroids is theirs now.

I went to a local diner in town and noticed they just added the "Titan Burger" to the menu.  Yeah this game is really getting hyped.

Oh and BTW for you trolls you know how you say," EA'S THE PUBLISHER THEY'RE GONNA BULLY THE DEVS TILL THEY RELEASE A POOR GAME LIKE SIMCITY OR BF4," No worry's about that here's why. Maxis Games and DICE are owned by EA Am i correct, yes i am, so technically that also makes EA The Developer/Publisher As they Market And Release the Game AND Control the Development and As Developers can assign Deadlines. It is against the law for publishers to control the development of projects made by companies they don't own. Respawn Entertainment Only joined EA So they can market the game to a wider audience (and to get away from lawyers in case activision trys to sue) So EA Can only market the game and get 7% of the Profit made from the game. A Example of this is CryTEK, They were Indie but to get Crysis out to a audience they Got EA To Publish them But EA Wasn't allowed to make deadlines or control the development in anyway so stop Saying ITS EA THEYRE GONNA RUIN EVERYTHING ABOUT TITANFALL!!!!!

I2edShift
I2edShift

@radcrab123 This is what I thought to... But here's the difference; EA DOES NOT OWN TITANFALL as an I.P. or the Respawn Entertainment studio. The game was published under the EA Partners Program. Basically, EA funds some portion of the game, packages, markets, and ships it to shelves. They then receive some %'d of revenue from sales. The Titanfall I.P. and the studio that makes it is not owned by any big publisher like Activions or EA.

So, chill, it'll be fine.

@radcrab123  "It is against the law for publishers to control the development of projects made by companies they don't own."

No, it isn't.

It's just naive to think their publishing agreement gives them no control over development.  EA is funding the game and they wouldn't do that if they couldn't influence what Respawn makes.  Respawn is also going to be reluctant to bite the hand that feeds them.  Obviously they don't come right out and state this but it's the way of the world.  Money talks.

SpicaAntares

@ggregd @radcrab123

Zampella has been burned by Bobby "$65,000,000" Kotick. I doubt his contract has loopholes EA could exploit this time, like Activision did. But who knows. As you say money talks.

Anyway I have doubts about the success of Titanfall. Not many X1 in circulation and the 796p thing wont help. If MS bothered to add a line to the contract that read: "--- and the game has to work at 1080p, whatever sacrifices Respawn has to do to achieve that"  then it might've help promotion of both the game and the console but now...
