Titanfall beta opens up to all on Xbox One tonight, PC maybe tomorrow

Titanfall developers wants to stress test the game as much as possible: "Let's break it."

by

The Titanfall beta will open up to all players who want to participate in order to stress test the game as much as possible, Respawn Entertainment's Vince Zampella announced on Twitter.

"Let's break it," Zampella said, "The plan is to make the beta fully open and have you max stress it!"

Xbox One players should be able to join the game later tonight. The PC beta will open later, maybe tomorrow.

To download the beta, sign in to your Xbox One and check the “New Game Demos” section of the Game Store. It should appear there. For further instructions on how to get the beta on Xbox One, head over to Major Nelson's blog.

The beta started yesterday and was originally set to end on February 18. However, since the servers were down for several hours last night, it will be extended by at least one more day.

Hopefully you didn't already spend $15-$35 on buying a beta code for the game from eBay.

If you want to know what to expect, be sure to read everything we know about the Titanfall beta so far.

"I have an evil grin on my face right now," Zampella said. "Is that normal?"

Looks like a revamped version of MechWarrior. The HUD looks like something from Crysis. Doesn't look very entertaining. I won't bad mouth it though since i haven't given it a try yet but those are just my thoughts and observations.

This game is actually really fun. I can't imagine how anyone with a brain thinks this game is more like CoD than like Halo. No fall damage, massive jumps, vehicles you can climb on and attack while riding on them... The only thing this game is missing to feel like Halo is an energy sword. Honestly this game feels more like a mix of Halo's mechanics and Battlefield 2142's Mechs. Pretty fun for me. And the 6v6 will make it better for clan battles, I think. Easier to get full groups together.

Loved it...Picking this one up.

6v6, 720p, CoD 'clone'... All of that doesn't matter to me. It has entertained me more than BF4 and COD has done for a while in just one weekend. A fresh new take with very smooth gameplay and engaging action. There is a reason why it has become a hot seller overnight on Amazon.

Titanfall kinda sucks imo, the second i realized the enemies i was shooting on the battlefield were AI bots i uninstalled and never played it again

Pretty bored with this game, couldn't imagine doing this over and over and over and over again.  Game mechanics feel clunky, game doesn't feel strategic at all, and the visuals are kind of crap.  I really wanted to like this game, I really wanted a new shooter, this isn't it.  Maybe Destiny in the fall.

Started the beta last night and maxed my level in one sitting.  Games an absolute blast.  Its pretty funny playing some of the people online.  You can tell who has just been playing CoD for the past half decade.  They just stand behind shit and fire around corners.  Don't use their wall run or jumping ability and are completely inept when trying to boost maneuver when in a Titan.  Thanks for making it so easy guys.  Of course when you do come across someone who actually knows how to play that's when the fun begins.  Two good Titans duking it out looks from the outside like a cross between an African mating ritual and ballet.  But with shields, rockets and bullets thrown in.  Tons of fun.  Can't wait for full release.

Played on both my pc and my xbox one. My PC version running on my 780 ti runs laps around my xbox one version. The resolution downscale is very noticeable on the xbox one. For example whenever u use the auto lock pistol on the console you can see that the like is not that smooth, you can see some edges. This game is a master piece on the PC. They promised a new type of multiplayer and delivered it. Game is very fast pace but fun and the AI does a good job.

I have played the Xbox One beta for the last couple days with some friends. It does have a Call of Duty feel to it, but its amazing how smooth the transition from pilot/titan is, even in the midst of chaotic combat. 6v6 human matches sounded very scarce before I tried the game, but with the human AI allies, and the Robot allies as well, all mixed in with the match, then including titans that are put into auto pilot modes, it does get pretty hectic at times, which just adds to the fun factor for me. The game looks very impressive, the controls are well mapped and responsive, and the game played very smooth, even at peak moments. To be just the beta, I never noticed any real gameplay glitches, only issues I had was with server connections. And to think im only getting a fraction of the maps and features, Im looking forward to the full game.

Definitely Call of Duty with mechs. But pretty fun.

Played the beta on PC.  Was online earlier and didn't see the beta availability but around 9ish I finally saw it.  Man, after downloading im like how can there be level 14 players already!  Same gameplay elements from COD, but much improved, I mean these guys did invent the COD gameplay first!  The parkour and jumping allow for greater map exploration, meaning more to attack from both vertically, horizontally, and laterally.  It still has client side hit detection and it has the browser function similar to MW2 so no server searching.  Titans are literally like giant version of your typical FPS avatar.  They move, shoot and fight just like in an FPS, except with different weapons, shields and a dash function.  Game modes are fast paced and action packed, but if you are expecting a game like COD4 with good server side and hit detection you may want to go somewhere else, hit detection was iffy in some spots, I would shoot a pilot with the Titan weapon and would kill one guy instantly and the next would soak up rounds like it was nothing.

Do you unlock anything in game EXCLUSIVELY from the beta? (Like Flame skins for GOW 3)  Or is it just "play early"  Cause i dont want to burn a gold card if i dont need to

Played a fer beta rounds I must admit it was really fun. I definitely agree it's basically COD: Ghosts with mechs but quite a bit has been changed.

The AI on grunts is a JOKE. Too bad they couldn't implement any sort of commands to move them around or follow orders.

6vs6 feels about right there is quite a lot going on in one match. I only tried Atrition mode the two maps are meh not bad.

I think with a few tweaks it has potential to be a great game. nothing wrong with the COD engine it runs better than any other FPS title out there on console anyways.

Knowing the dev im sure Titanfall2 will be out next year lol.

I enjoyed the beta on the Xbox One.

I find that the maps are a bit odd.  Some spaces I think my titan can get through and I can't.

I feel that when I get onto a roof of a building, most of the time I can't be stopped.  Other ground troops or Titans are too busy turning tight corners and they don't have time to check which roof I am on.  Not forgetting to mention that the mini map is pretty hard to read when there's so many guys on the field.

Also, I'm not sure how the game works in attrition mode.  I've played several games where my whole team has titans walking around killing everything we see, and our titans not dying, but we some how are still losing points and in the end lose a tight game.  What's happening?

My 6 year old son likes it, if that means anything. I could take or leave. the maps seem really small. I prefer the ground guys over the mechs.

Call of Duty: Mechs. - Moba Edition.

Another generic shooter that copies and pastes old ideas into one big turd, brands it new, and sells it for 60 dollars.

I got bored shooting bots after about 25 minutes in the beta.

I wasn't impressed with the game at all. Let the dislikes begin but it felt like I was playing CoD with Mechs. The AI are dull and not even worthy of being called an appetizer, they're a waste of ammo that could've been used killing actual threats. I had no problem getting a Titan in time, and supposedly killing the "minions" decreases the time you need to wait to activate a Titan drop but the fact you can leach onto any titan from any height, even starting from the ground. Not to mention the enviroment   is uninspired. If you look up at the sky its a copy and paste action of ships warping in, then flying across the map, then another set of the same ships, warping in and then flying across the map with no real context to what they're doing. Even if you call in for a titan, its as if they come from some mothership off-planet rather then the ships that just pass by the map.

I'm a kind of gamer that likes to be immersed in the world, even the pop-in communication voices are vague and uninspired. I could be heading toward "Hardpoint Bravo" and the communicator will state, "You're moving toward Hardpoint Bravo, I'm getting a reading there are enemies in that vicinity, I can't tell how many but stay on your toes.", I get to the point and there is no one there, infact one game we had all points controlled and leading the team 175 - 35 and I get a drop in voice over saying, "We have all the points but its a close one, we need to pull it togethor."

There is no context to what the mission is or why we have to hack and hold these points, the only real gist of what kind of storyline or over-all being of the game is before each match you're told that "The colony was pumped dry from fuel." or somewhere along those lines.

I feel as though its COD in sheeps clothing.

played like mad yesterday… game is great, tons of fun… this ain't the same old CoD… this really plays a lot more like a MOBA than a massive shooter. I really liked that approach. Titan battles are awesome… everything feels great…

if I wanted to play a 18x18 shooter, I'd be on BF4 instead… 6x6 for a MOBA game is already better than any 4x4 MOBAs out there...

@Ghosthunter54  I can't believe anyone with a brain thinks it isn't like CoD and in any way like Halo(not the first time I've heard that, are you like the same guy?). I sunk all the hours I could into it looking for it to prove me wrong. I was disappointed on that end.

Halo mechanics? No.

Battle 2142 Mechs? Did you even play that game? Hell no.

That being said, the game is lots of fun, and a vast improvement over MW play and flow, though mostly because of what the mechs provide. 6v6, while not what people were expecting, was definitely the right number for play balance, match making, clans.

Ghosthunter54
Ghosthunter54

@dannydopamine28  There are some bots on the field, but they just boost xp. They don't count toward the score. Besides, they make it more interesting, imo, because you can't tell right away if you're up against a bot or a bad guy.

screwjack86
screwjack86

@SacredGray It has CoDs tight shooter mechanics and xp lvling.  To me those were the only good things CoD had left.  Its pretty funny too.  You can tell whos just been playing CoD for the past half decade.  They just stand behind cover and shoot around corners lol.  This game is about fast mobility when on foot (when in a Titan too).  That's what I think I've liked about it so far.  That its not about standing behind cover and waiting for someone to wander into your crosshair.  Using your boost both as a pilot and in Titan is crucial to survival.

lucutisborg
lucutisborg

@Darklurkr23 But unlike crappy BF4, Titanfall has no identifiable bugs at the beta stage. Though I would echo @madgame23's comment that sometimes I find there is a split second delay between me getting the final hit on a pilot (when I'm a pilot), and the system registering it as such and showing up on my screen.

madgame23
madgame23

@Darklurkr23 its a stress test/early play through.  As far as I know you don't get anything special except to test run the game before release.  Just like BF4 beta was supposed to stress test but they game still had problems after release so in essence the beta was an early play through event only really!  So don't expect any real fixes come out for the titanfall beta event other than fun gameplay.

@eyeseller  probably means you're a bad parent if you are letting your 6 year old play a war game.

jayjay444
jayjay444

@eyeseller  In comparison to BF3 or BF4 yeah there small, but compare them to cod and there double the size of their biggest maps, there about the size of a medium halo map for a 6 vs 6 that's pretty decent in my opinion.

jayjay444
jayjay444

@Baraq  LOL since when has a game had fast paced gameplay like counter strike or quake for example, with mirror edge type wall running, with a sci-fi feel that feels straight out of Deux ex then on top of that mech combat and not just mech combat but mech combat done right, doing all this in just 1 game far as I know no game made yet dose all these elements in one game how about you actually play the game before you fail at trolling.

Total_mischief

@Sergeant_  Eh, I'd disagree some. I find it much better than what CoD has become. Still a bit underwhelming, though.  Maybe I'm just growing away from shooters.

termisk8er
termisk8er

@Sergeant_  Keep in mind this is a Beta test, focused entirely on matches, in order to test server load and game play mechanics.  The story has been completely omitted.  Also, take notice the drop ships fly down and drop off more grunts/specters.

screwjack86
screwjack86

@Sergeant_ I think its kind of funny how people keep calling it CoD with mechs like its a detriment.  That's exactly what it is lol.  These are the folks that made CoD what it was but not what it became.  Activision has been piggy backing off of the success of these devs for nearly a decade now.  As far as I'm concerned CoD is Titanfall without mechs.

@Ahiru-San What the heck are you talking about !! What MOBA !! What 4x4 ?! You dont even know what MOBA is and you comparing it to an FPS !! And how 6x6 is better than 5x5 ? You dont even know what the heck you talking about. Leave MOBA outside of this

cws3e

@screwjack86 @SacredGray  The shooting mechanics are pretty crap, so if this is what CoD plays like I'm glad I have avoided it all these years.

bphilpott2011

@greenknight1490 @Romayo83 Ummm if you have played it, 6v6 can get very hectic at times, if it was 16v16 they would def have to increase map size and also remove some Ally AI. I really enjoyed the 6v6 matches and feel it does well for the layouts I played.

madgame23
madgame23

@greenknight1490 @Romayo83 The maps, though somewhat large by COD standards has a lot of buildings and other stuff littered around the maps.  It would be chaotic if more than the allotted players were in the game.

@jayjay444 your probably right. It just feels compressed like i have little options once im in a mech. It just probably my inexperience. I will probably get the games once there is a price drop.

quakke

@jayjay444 @Baraq

Lol, how about you actually play Quake before making statements which incline that Titanfall is fastpaced game like Quake. Not in a million years is this fastpaced. Slightly different from CoD, yes. But not fastpaced. Just like CoD isn't fastpaced either. This is just your generic console shooter.

Ahiru-San
Ahiru-San

@AzatiS @Ahiru-San  uh.. spawning creeps and small team battles makes it pretty much a MOBA…. 6x6 is better than 5x5/4x4 because more players can play, if you had friends you'd know what that means…

did I offend your precious LoL and DoTA comparing the gameplay style?! I know this is an FPS, but it's not a simple CoD and much less like BF…

screwjack86
screwjack86

@cws3e @screwjack86@SacredGray Server side hit detection still needs work but the gun action feels good.  Its satisfying to fire a weapon in the game imo. But I like your original statement about the game being like CoD but you've never played that game.  Forming opinions with no basis makes people not want to listen to anything else you have to say.  Life tip.

jayjay444
jayjay444

@eyeseller @jayjay444  It kinda need to be seen it's only 6 vs 6 I hope they increase it to 12 vs 12 and make the maps bigger than they currently are and add in harder AI lol.

jayjay444
jayjay444

@quakke  Iv'e been playing  quake since quake 2 and the game is as fast as any quake game iv'e played other than 3, the game is the pace counter strike is rather than quake, but I can say this game doesn't come close to the brilliance of the old quake games it's a shame their isn't a new one on the way I miss it dearly but the game is fast paced play the game and you will see what I mean. There's almost no camping, the gameplay is constantly on the move, this game is more fast paced than almost all games other than Quake and UT on the smallest level of the Beta it's almost on par with Quake and UT with how fast it is, when the beta goes live on PC try it mate just try it only then will you see what everyone is talking about.
