Titanfall beta is definitely not "open"

Respawn cofounder Vince Zampella says, "Sadly, we have restrictions that we couldn't avoid."

The upcoming beta for Respawn Entertainment's hotly anticipated online shooter Titanfall is "not an open beta by any standards," studio cofounder Vince Zampella said on Twitter.

"If it were up to me I would let most of you in (always a few bad apples)," Zampella said. "Sadly, we have restrictions that we couldn't avoid."

It remains unclear how you'll be able to get access to the beta, though Respawn has previously confirmed that you won't need to preorder to get in. On the other hand, however, preordering the game also won't guarantee you access to the Titanfall beta.

Zampella said players should expect news about the Titanfall beta sometime today, though no announcements have been made so far. The Titanfall beta will be held on Xbox One and PC, while Xbox 360 players will be left out.

Titanfall launches for Xbox One and PC on March 11, while the Xbox 360 version--developed by outside studio Bluepoint Games--will be released on March 25. That version of the game needed extra time for polishing, EA said last week.

With six versus six I hope the next gen hardware can handle it

Let's be completely honest, this glorified demo is definitely not a "beta."

the people who are flaming this game are broke little kids that can only beg their parents for a next gen console (PS4) they dont even have...so enjoy flaming titanfall while you play your PS3s this weekend and for the next year lol

Isn't it funny how if u post up ur personal opinion of a game u get flamed

For some reason I didn't actually expect it to be open. It's probably EA that have put in place the restrictions on how many people will be taking part. I doubt they want the world and his wife playing this new IP before it's ready to go on sale.

Let me just say it, and feel free to flame me tbh.

This game, is going to suck completely, and i mean it's going to redefine the meaning of disappointment. I really had interest in this game a few months back... it's one of the primary reasons i bought an Xbox one (the other being forza so i'm alright)

But lets face it, this has been so deeply infected by EA it just needs to be cut open and drained of pus, EA an Abscess upon the gaming community as a whole.

So very sad...

No matter what it isn't running on EA servers and that's enough Good news for me.

Funny you have to pay for a beta, since most betas would probably like to have as many participants as possible to help determine various compatibility issues and what have you.  Seems like just further evidence that this beta is not being setup with any intention to listen to or act upon player feedback and actual game and network issues.  Rather it's a paid demo for people to enjoy before they pickup the final release in a couple weeks.

for some reason I don't think any of the release dates they have right now will stick

Be great if we get in. Lets hope for the best!

Respawn REALLY needs to get in front of this and figure out what the h@ll they're going for and then let us know.  This Ping-Pong match of "facts" and non-announcements is getting very old.

Titanfall is seriously becoming the game of restriction.

You get 3 of those and 12 them...

You can't do this...

You can't do that...

You must have this...

We don't support that!

Tell me honestly, what IS open or not restricted on the Xbox one? Next thing you know, they need to identify you every time you want to play multiplayer pfff.

Don't worry, EA will force Respawn to release Titanfall without proper testing, and players will betatest it for months (after mandatory payment, of course). That's what happened with Battlefield 4. Then, Respawn will be blamed by EA and Titanfall 2 given to a different studio. That's what it's happening with Battlefield.

Seriously, I don't hope so, players don't deserve it.

...ugh....does EA own everything?

The open beta launches March 11.

So if the preorder cant get you in the beta why pre order it??

@SacredGray  so true. When they release a beta 1 month before launch (Battlefield 4) it's the final version of the game. Many/most bugs found in the beta will be in the final release of the game because they don't have enough time to fix the problems. A true beta is release 3-4 months before release. Then they can actually fix the problems that the beta exposes.

The only people that use "kids" as an insult are those who have severe insecurities. EA bombed Simcity and Battlfiekd, but because it's a Xbox bro shooter it is infallible? At least I know not to take any of your posts seriously.

Not flaming But people who played the alpha most seemed to love it. But suckIng or not is a opinion for each individual to decide.

@cboye18  I'm waiting for the mandatory urine sample before voice recognition is enabled. But I'm sure most Xbox owners have been freely giving their Xbox's urine samples since they got it...

@garrapignado EA neither own Respawn nor the Titanfall IP, they're just publishing it through EA Partners. There's a big difference between that and EA DICE working on an EA IP.

Point taken, it just seems that all news since the alpha is negative or atleast has a negative backdrop to it.

@Morphic  Well none of the info surrounding this game and the beta seem to be concrete at this point, but it had been heavily implied, and even flat out stated at times, that you need to pre-order the game or otherwise buy into it with some other EA product.  It has also been said several times that it's not open, and there don't seem to be invites going out to people..?  It all sounds like a paid-to-play beta so far.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@uchihasilver  I don't even think the game is going to be bad, just all the EA underpinnings that are tied to the product are enough to keep me VERY skeptical, and probably enough to drive me away from buying even if it IS good.

Karlinel
Karlinel

@cejay0813 @seanwil545  Of course you can, but still, the latest news about Titanfall have been all "negative" statements: only 6vs6, titans can't tear walls down, Beta will be not open in any way.

Im not saying the game will be bad (even if I think it will disappoint), just pointing out how weird is their pre-release marketing, with just 1 month to launch.

TrialMonkey
TrialMonkey

@pez2k_ @garrapignado  I hope that is enough. The BF4 release was the worst release in the franchise. I would expect testing and general release quality to be getting better over time not worse. Every game is a butterfly I guess.

@kaim86

I'll give it a month or 2 after release though, not making the mistake i made with Battlefield 4... sit around with a pretty much worthless disc for the first 3 months.

Things tend to get exaggerated when it comes to news especially on the net. I say reserve you're judgment for when you yourself get you're hands on it.

@nl_skipper @Morphic  If you had bothered to sign up and find out for yourself the beta is free.  I understand the EA hate I really do but when a decent game comes along by EA there's no need to piss on it,

@xTheTrueSeekerx  Thank you. All correct information. Beta Sign Ups start TODAY!!! Now just waiting on announcement for the time for Beta sign up.

xTheTrueSeekerx
xTheTrueSeekerx

Actually its been stated several times that the beta is not going out based on the preorders. Nor should it make sense that its linked to any other game, because those things are usually advertised in order to sell said game. Its far more likely that there will be sign ups any day now.

xf_talentz_iii
xf_talentz_iii

@nl_skipper @Morphic  I'm sorry, but are you serious right now? WHERE did you EVER get the idea that you must PAY to get access to the Titanfall Beta??? It's been CLEARLY stated multiple times, by many people from the creators, that it is, in fact, NOT a paid Beta. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PREORDER TO GAIN BETA ACCESS! It is a free Beta, which you'll need to sign up for, in order to get a chance to receive a Beta key code. Preorder does not increase chances of gaining Beta access. They are completely unrelated. THE BETA IS FREE!!!!!!!!!

@ParanoidPaal  Usually $50 for PC games, though all EA games have been $60 lately.  In Canada at least,  pretty sure we have same prices as our southern chums.

ParanoidPaal

@jack00 I'm just curious, did you get it for XB One or PC? If PC: how much do PC games cost at launch over there? Here a PC game (hard copy) is sold at retail for the equivalent of $35-45. If I'm not mistaken it's like $60 in the US?

jack00
jack00

@blackleg_sanji Ignore that dickhead. I too don't understand the purpose of pre-ordering a game. While I did pre-order this one, it is because there was on futureshop's site back at E3 where if you pre-order 3 games, you get 20$ off each, so i'm getting this for 39.99$.

Sometimes there are some bonuses when you pre-order a game like a bonus skin for your character/exclusive in-game items but I don't support that practice and I look down on anybody who does because they're morons.
