Time for the iPhone 6? Apple Holding Press Event September 9

"Wish we could say more," Apple teases.

As suspected, Apple will hold a press event the week after next where it is widely suspected to officially announce the long-rumored iPhone 6. GameSpot sister site CNET obtained an invitation to the event, which will be held nearby Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. on September 9.

In typical Apple form, the company didn't give official details about what will be shown at the event, insteading opting to tease, "Wish we could say more." Beyond the iPhone 6, there have been rumblings of a new Apple wearable device.

The Apple event itself will take place at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino. It comes one year after Apple announced the iPhone 5S and 5C. As CNET points out, Apple has introduced a new iPhone every year since the late Steve Jobs originally unveiled the smart-device back in 2007.

CNET will have full coverage of the Apple event next week, beginning with a live show. Gaming often plays a part in Apple's press conferences. In the past, Epic Games executives have appeared on stage to talk about advancements to mobile graphics technologies, and the company's Infinity Blade series often frequents the Apple stage.

What are you hoping to see at Apple's event next week? Let us know in the comments below!

Already? By the way, how the hell is this even related to games anyway?

@raptor1998  C'mon, use your brains!  You have them for a reason! Developers make games for the iPhone!

@allever @raptor1998 I did use my brain, it's an ad. and these games you're talking about is stuff like Flappy Bird and other tiny games.

I can't wait to go back to a flip phone. If not for anything but the fact I can drop it from 50' and still use it when I recover it.

@McGregor Apple products break all the time so that they can get more money.  I have an android phone and have had no issues.  It has dropped from my desk several times.

@daikkenaurora12 That's hilarious. My iPhone 5 has survived a motorcycle accident involving me almost drowning in flood water, countless drops, a few leg kicks to my pocket, and finally (after nearly 2 years of abuse) the screen smashed when it dropped onto my bathroom floor at an awkward angle. I went straight to Amazon and had a replacement screen with me 2 days later that only cost me £40 (1/3rd of the price of a replacement screen for the Galaxy S5). Dropped it several times since and it's still going strong.

If Apple are designing phones to break easily, they're doing a terrible job of it.

It's good to know that after all these years apple still holds a grudge against Bungie..

Apple makes me sick. Rinse, repeat and sell for $500. Since the 1st iPhone, what's been added or improved? They've got 6 versions(even more if you include S and C variants) and really only the OS has changed. And there are people who just eat it up "Oh my god! Another iPhone!? I must have it. Even though I got the 6 last year, it is now a piece of garbage! I must upgrade!"

@themc_7  I got Ipod touch 5th gen and I am pleased with it 100%. I don't care what people think  don't go otand buy a new Ipod when a new one comes out before the 5h Gen I had the 2nd Gen. it was only till I found that I couldn't run some apps on it.

Zerabp

@themc_7 They have upgraded the processor with each new main numbered iteration as well as the display technology. So it's not rinse repeat. If you're going to put down apple talk about the price which you mentioned but don't go into detail on why it's not worth $500 (hint it's the memory). Or go into their complete babying and hand holding by not giving access to all of the devices settings. Talk about their hostility towards jailbreakers solving the previously mentioned problem. To say each one is rinse repeat however is just a firm denial of the facts.

@daikkenaurora12 Overpriced? doesn't it cost as much as any other flagship android?

yeah lets get a phone that wont let you do anything.Apple is for chicks or people who dont know how to use smart phones.

Zerabp

@daikkenaurora12 @Zerabp @beerswagger Nope, part of the evidence that I'm not is that I'm making a well reasoned and logical argument.

Interesting how you edited your original comment almost as if to save face...

Zerabp
Zerabp

@beerswagger I have an Iphone 5, it's jailbroken and can do anything an android phone can do and more. Noe don't get me wrong there are many valid arguments against Apple themselves (As daikkenaurora12 mentioned it is over priced mostly because until you jail break it it's highly overpriced, and afterwards it's mildly overpriced). They are good pieces of tech though and when windows or android are the only other real options right now, (hoping Firefox's foray takes a turn for the high end, and that the umbutu phone releases soon) it does come down to a matter of preference of which giant cronyist mega-corporation you want to support. I went with the most stable OS (even post JB) and that smallest one to boot. My point is you putting people down because of their choice of phone which most people don't put a lot of thought into is nothing more than fanboyism. Insult the company and it's policies not it's customers.

jellyman68
jellyman68

@beerswagger That's not true at all. In my experience, iPhones are the phone of choice for many of the developers and computer scientists I know. You telling me you know more about smartphones than they do?

Richie_Kotzev
Richie_Kotzev

" 9.9.2014 we could say more" yeah, that's the date when they will announce a "new" phone, capable of everything a galaxy s3 can do (not really everything), but costing 3 or 4 times more.  in short: why pay less and do more if you can pay more and do less?? this is the logic on owning apple phone.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

So you support the knock offs over the innovators?

themc_7
themc_7

@Sevenizz You believe Androids are knock off? Do some research, pretty much everything Apple is doing or has done is borrowed, copied, or down right stolen from some other developer/manufacturer.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

Meanwhile...Samsung is sued for billions of dollars due to blatant rip offs.

customx5
customx5

@c4000 @Sevenizz And I'm guessing you support Sony, how does it feel that a company tells you that you  cant have EA access because 'they' think it's a bad deal? all the while trying to rip off customers for $5.00 for 4 hours of PS Now gameplay, keep drinking that tainted Miso.

jellyman68
jellyman68

@Richie_Kotzev You're not seeing past the raw, on-paper figures. There's way more to a device than just the numbers and pure functionality. Interface, after-sales support, personal preference, compatibility, and other factors are all considered when getting a smartphone.

And how do you even know what the new iPhone is capable of if they haven't even announced it yet? You're literally just assuming you know everything already.

Richie_Kotzev
Richie_Kotzev

@jellyman68 @Richie_Kotzev well, you can follow te phones generation history and you'll see that apple is always behind their phones are always less powerful and packing less features than others.  an Iphone 5 is powerful as an s3, and in some very few aspects the s4. second, if you believe your product is really good then you don't need to rely on customer support excellency (since you probably won't need it, as I never needed) .  now about personal preference, well, you're right. I like to share my content with friends, I like to plug my phone on computer and voila. I also enjoy freedom (no chains attached). about specs, easy, as I said before, just compare the phone gen evolution and it won't be hard to guess what will be of the "new" iphone. o, by the way I have a friend working in the foxconn company here(so, not hard to know some info about the ipphone. I'm living in China.

jellyman68
jellyman68

@Richie_Kotzev Less powerful? I'm not so sure about that. Less power consuming might be more accurate.

Of course nobody wants to have to use after-sales support, but sometimes it's necessary. I was glad I had an Apple laptop when I spilled a drink all over it and destroyed it. Apple were under no obligation to fix the damage as I didn't have insurance, but they replaced an almost brand new MacBook Pro for free. They're a great company for stuff like that.

I don't know how you've concluded that Apple are always behind the competition. Compare, for example, the iPhone 4 to the competition at the time. The iPhone was well ahead. It may not have had all of the features and gimmicks of some of the competing devices, but the market tells us that most people don't care about that stuff anyway (I certainly don't - tried using eye tracking and a couple of other gimmicks on the Samsung S4 and it didn't even work.)

Point is, people choose a device based on so much more than hardware specs and software features. It's not as simple as "this one does more than this one, therefore it's better".

Also, iPhones don't cost 3x the price of competing devices do in my country. Maybe they do in China, but not in the UK. Most are provided for free or cheaply when a person signs up for a contract.

The amount of people in my generation who have iPhones (basically everyone) frightens me, in several years time they have a monopoly and then they'll milk you dry.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

A co-worker was looking for a non IPhone charger the other day and no one owns non apple products in my office. But is it so bad if Apple has the monopoly? I mean - they did invent the segment.

McGregor
McGregor

@Sevenizz Except that they didn't invent the smart phone. Blackberry was doing that long before Apple got into the game. They didn't even invent the first touchscreen phone; I believe that honor belongs to Nokia. What apple did, was provide a software solution, which revolutionized the industry. That much they did invent. Although if you go back 30+ years, I do believe that Apple made the first handheld touchscreen device in the Apple Newton.

Eddie, can you report about food and clothing in the next article? If this is gaming relevant news then food is too! A gamer needs to eat to survive, and a gamer needs clothes to wear. Probably a couple of articles about sleep disorders and chairs and stuff as well. On a serious note, gamespot has gone and has almost become "GameNoSpot"

I left my iPhone a year ago and will never go back. The amount of freedom and customization you get to do with an android makes me wonder why anyone would want to pay to be forced to use Apples programs like iTunes.

Sevenizz

You realize there's other aps for music besides iTunes, right? I have an Xbox Music ap that syncs with my Xbox One and I never have to purchase music off iTunes again.

@drwaldy @guydude3412 you just said the App Store has games xD You're the ignorant one lol. Cheap touch screen knock offs can hardly be called games :) Android and iOS needs to stay out of the gaming industry

@guydude3412 They totally should. I'm not saying they're doing a good job. Not sure why there isn't more Android news on this site.

Why should they? It is a gaming site, not a phone site.

@guydude3412 Considering the amount of games in the App Store, like Bioshock, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy 6 for example... I'd say you have no idea what you're talking about.

iPhones play games. Ever hear of Angry Birds?

drwaldy
drwaldy

@guydude3412 The one small piece they publish amidst a sea of Xbox vs PS resolution / FPS bullshit really bothers you that much? Like I said, mobile is a major gaming platform now, whether you like it or not, and with new hardware comes further advancements in game engines and how devs design games. It might not be your cup of tea, but to discount hundreds if not thousands of mobile developers is simply daft.

Mobile gaming is here to stay.

guydude3412

Really? Then why don't they report on android, WP, or blackberry news? All those platforms have games
