Tim Tebow fronts NCAA Football 11

Florida Gators quarterback chosen to be the cover athlete for EA Sports' annual collegiate gridiron sim; due for 360, PS3, PS2 on July 13.

EA may have benched its college basketball sim for the 2010-2011 season, but the publisher's NCAA Football franchise won't be slowing its annual rush. Today, EA Sports announced that NCAA Football 11 will kick off on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2 on July 13.

Tim Tebow smiles for the camera.

University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow will lead this year's charge as NCAA Football 11's cover athlete. Tebow earned the coveted Heisman Trophy in 2007, the same year the Gators picked up their first of two BCS Championships with the dynamic passer and rusher at the helm. Tebow also gained a measure of notoriety after appearing in a pro-life commercial during Super Bowl XLIV.

EA Tiburon returns as the developer for this year's college gridiron installment. The Orlando, Florida-based studio has been mostly tight-lipped on the major changes it has made to this year's outing. However, an assortment of tweaks that EA has announced include on-field refs, gang tackles, and formation subs. The publisher also notes that Tiburon has crafted offenses for each of the 120 teams that mirror their real-world counterparts.

@Boundtoviolence They can't put current college players on the front cover because it is not allowed by the NCAA. It has something to do with infractions. I am looking forward to playing your seminoles. Hopefully it will be a good game.

Being a seminole fan, I don't say this to be bitter...I think he should have had it LAST year during his SR year. Why does EA never keep it relevant to the current season? How many years of tebow riding the bench in the NFL until he finally goes away?

@jshaas I agree, but I don't like the guy. Haha.. I mean it is cool for some people but it would have been nice if he wasn't the cover guy for all the systems.

@jshaas...true but I would have still loved to have seen Bradford on that cover :/

@PwNiShEr1216... Getting the cover isn't really about whether or not you played for the NC. It's more about the player's entire body of work on the field... and Tebow is head and shoulders above everyone for the last 4 years of college football. Matt Ryan was on the cover in 09, and he never even sniffed a NC game. McCoy would be a great choice as well... his career at Texas was amazing. Bradford is DQ'd because he didn't play his senior season with the bad shoulder.

@TJSOONERFAN... For NCAA 08 EA had a different athlete for each platform the game was released on. I don't think Tebow was the one making all the hype about his off-the-field activities... it was the announcers, the media, and the fans. Sure a number of players go on mission trips... but how many of them have 2 NC in 4 years, and every QB record known to man? Only one... Tim Tebow. He deserves the cover.

I think EA should have a lot of different players on the front cover. Maybe like one year you put SEC players on it, then the next year the BIg Ten, ACC, Big 12, and so on. One player from each team would be cool. I mean you don't even have to put real players on the cover and it could save money. I like how ever year when I look at the cover I say Oregon, USC, Boise State, or Michigan is on the cover. 2011 I will say Tim Tebow is on the cover. The dude doesn't represent Florida, because he is too busy talking about himself. If I was on his team I would be sick of hearing about him too. That defense he had was awesome, awesome, awesome, and it never received any credit, because Tebow was too busy talking about his mission trips. Players all around the country do mission trips but they don't brag about it. I must have missed the part about being a good person requires me to brag about my good deeds.

I love Tebow so I am buying it,I personally am sort of a fan of NCAA Football but Ive owned 2005 and 2008 and its pretty much the same and its disapointing,Thats why I havent boughten any in a long time.

It's never a good idea to put such a polarizing athlete on a cover. Face it, everyone either loves him or hates him. For as popular as he is, there's still a huge amount of people who hate him just as much (even to the point they wouldnt buy this game over it). Personally, I just thought he was an overrated product of an adoration by the media who wanted a "wholesome hero" to swoon about any chance they got. As a starting QB he has won a Heisman and a national championship. Is that good? Hell yeah. Is that the stuff of legend, like the media tells us? Not to me it isn't.

i'll have to put a nice eric berry picture over it :)

If I were planning on buying the game then this decision would have changed my mind. I am shallow enough to not buy something just because somebody I don't like is on the cover.

@grasshopper6: Hmm, calling someone else a loser when you can't even spell his name. Ironic, huh?

Tebow? Why not Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy? At least Colt was in the BCS Championship game.

I wonder if Tebow cried when he found out he was on the cover.

Why are people bringing up the Madden curse when we're talking about the NCAA cover?

risseer23 Posted Apr 8, 2010 9:30 pm CT The guy is a winner,he cried because he wanted to win a championship, and failed at the end.Doesn't make him a cry baby tho.He has great leadership,if he can get that ball out a lil quicker, he can play the next level __________________________- here is the problem, he already has a championship... 2 of them. That is what makes him different from say Colt McCoy who was upset because he was so close to a National Championship, but then got hurt in the first quarter -

That's interesting. This guy will probably not be drafted until the 3rd round at least.

heres to hoping he at least has the knowledge to use the so called 'madden cover curse' for when he flops... otherwise WURRSE COVA EVA!

well he was a good *no great* collage player. but he dont have the skill nore the brains to be a nfl qb. least he got his face on a game and free schooling and a ton of snapper out of the deal....

Tim Tebow was an outstanding football PLAYER. He was not an outstanding QB. He was slightly above average as a QB, but he didn't have to be any more than that at Florida. The system that Meyer runs at UF fit Tebow's style well. It didn't matter that he had a full 360 degree throwing motion, or that his arm strength/accuracy were questionable, the spread option was 100% his offence, and he ran it to as close to perfection as anyone could have. He was a winner, which at the collegiate level, IMO, is worth more than anything else.

Tim Tebow was an outstanding football QB and it is fitting that he has the Madden honor. Now that's done; I hope the game processes the same quality. The issue is not who's on the cover but what the game play is like. Just put the time and effort in producing the best NCAA football game in 2011.

Tebow cried. And how does this make him a poor candidate for the cover? If anything it shows his true passion for the game. You know who else cries? Brett Favre is headed for the Hall of Fame and cries almost as much as he tosses INTs. You know who else cries? All those guys on the losing bench with towels draped over their faces for the last 10 minutes of the game. As for the Super Bowl ad, I was disturbed by it when I first saw the story about it, but in the end it was an innocuous ad that only led to divisive ideology if you went to website mentioned in the ad.

just glad redskins got mcnabb. now i dont have to worry about them drafting this soon to be nfl bench warmer

I was hoping they would do multiple covers, and that Eric Berry would get the 360 cover. Didn't they do multiple covers last year, or am I imagining this?

@swamptick That guys got a bigger set than you buddy, thats for sure. People may hate on him for what he does and stands for, but the guy doesn't care about what kids like you think. Congrats, Tebow.

@swamptick Wouldnt you cry if something you worked for so hard giving your whole year practically was taken away from you in such a devasting way? Im sure you;d cry like a little baby if something like that happened to you...i know i have...

As a Florida resident and fan this makes me happy. Go Tebow! Too bad I have no interest in the game itself.

Didn't see this coming. And I'm sure Tebow cried after beating down Alabama the year before, it's just who he is.

Too bad he got BEAT DOWN so bad by Alabama that he cried like a little sissy. Crybaby.
