Three Tips for Modern Warfare 3's Next Content Drops

The third expansion to MW3 arrives this week, and it's all about special ops. We buddied up with Sledgehammer Games to get some pro tips.

The Modern Warfare 3 content season continues apace, with the third set of drops happening for Call of Duty: Elite members on the Xbox 360 on March 13, 2012. Before that happens, though, you need to know what to expect, or else you'll walk into a world of hurt from the terrorist elite. Thankfully, we got to play the maps early with Michael Condrey from Sledgehammer Games, who was able to offer us plenty of insights as we played. Absorb the following information, soldier.

Start Prepping for Spec Ops Leaderboards
The March content drop contains the first-ever downloadable Call of Duty Special Ops missions. The first is called Black Ice and sees you racing down a mountain on a snowmobile before infiltrating a diamond mine, planting explosives, and getting the hell out of there. This will be the first time that Call of Duty Elite leaderboards will include Special Ops mode, so you'll be able to see how your scores match up to your friends. Our advice: Get practicing in the existing Spec Ops maps now so you're ready to start dominating later.

Avoid the Hostages; Score Some Sweet Achievements
In the second Spec Ops map, Negotiator, you and your partner start off as hostages. The first player has to shuffle forward, grab the gun off one of your tormentors, and then take out the two guards. Then, the race is on to get over to your teammate's location and save him before he's executed. It's very easy to inadvertently kill hostages on this map, either by allowing them to be executed or by shooting them yourself. Both these things have an impact on your score, so you'll need to play this map a few times and memorize their location. But it's worth doing because saving all the hostages on the level will unlock a healthy achievement bonus.

Pick Your Position in Black Box
The final map in the package features Air Force One, which has crashed in the middle of an unfinished housing estate. As soon as you get into the map, you're going to want to run up the hill and take up a position at the front of the opened-up house. The shotguns you start with aren't much use from up there at first, but as you progress and get more money to spend, you'll get a tactical advantage. Plant mines on the stairs, stick an automated turret on the second floor, and call in Delta squad or a predator missile when the juggernauts arrive.

So those are three of the six new maps for the Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection #1 and our tips for success when they arrive. Are you excited for the latest Call of Duty content drop? Let us know in the comments.

How can we stop activision? "BY NOT BUYING IT"

The more and more I read about MW3 the more sick I feel It's not enough Activison make some people buy the barely new version of CoD? But they are now wanting people to get suckered in to the yearly subscription payment for CALL OF DUTY ELITE!! My god, I wish people would open their eyes I'm not insulting you but I'm saying this because it's true THEY ARE RIPPING YOU OFF!! It's never enough for Activision I can remember people use to praise Activision and hated on EA but... Couple years on Activision looks even more guilty than EA.

Great maps it's just a crying shame that the gameplay of MW3 isn't up to par to make these maps these developers have spent a lot of time making enjoyable.

Question to all: How often is your game plagued by Hackers in Modern Warfare 3?

only losers come on here and complain telling people to not buy it etc. grow up and get a life. who really cares what you pathetic little loser kids think. Everyone hating COD because its so popular. shows the insecurity of the gaming community. Grow up and find something you like, and do not attack others for what they like. bunch of f*aggots.

Yeah, I am an Elite founder... On PS3 so why exactly did I pay $110 to be an Elite Founder again..? Oh that's right, Activision knew that's the last time they would see a gaming dollar from me so they wanted to double down.

Quick! Let's hate on a game I don't own, like or have any intention to play, because how else can I make myself feel better?!

MW3 has been out for a little over 4 months now and it's already coming out with a third expansion? So basically, if it comes out with an expansion every month from now to it's one year anniversary it will have...what...11 DLC's? So you pay $59+tax for the game itself, $15 or whatever for the DLC's, and you end up with something like $225 for a copy and paste game that changes the skins on a few guns and adds a number to the end of the title. Sad thing is, you know people will buy it and continue to support this sh1t game. No wonder most games suck so hard these days and comapnies don't try to put out any interesting IP.

It's sad when your modding community can make better experiences than you, Infinity Ward.

When dealing with a COD DLC, there's only one tip that I can give you: 1.) Don't buy any of them in the first place.

Cry some more about Microsoft ? Sony and the PS3 failed this generation to give gamers what they wanted. I can count good PS3 exclusive titles on one hand. I had one console Redring and they replaced it, even after my warranty was voided for less than $100. Face it the Xbox has officially beaten the PS3 in sales and software... hence why they pay to get the good stuff first.

I want the Content Drop 2 already. Stupid greedy Microsoft getting DLC early. With Elite the whole 1 month early deal shoulda been Void!! Xbox is already on Content Drop 3 when PS3 hasent even gotten the Content Drop 2 yet. It pisses me off. I will never buy a MS console ever again. 3 RROD's on 3 seperate consoles.... No thanx MS you lost my business. I have a PS3 40GB for 3 years and I'm happy.

Does Gamespot actually post news and previews anymore, or do they just do these ads and promos that are poorly disguised as such?
