THQ has announced that Toxic Grind, its mission-based BMX game set in the year 2097, is now available in stores. BMX riding has been outlawed in the future, and riders are executed Running Man-style on a game show. When the supply of riders dries up, the makers of the show resort to plucking riders from the past for execution in the name of entertainment.

As Jason Heyes, a pro BMX rider from the year 2002 who finds himself transported to this dark future, players will have to quite literally ride for their lives by completing missions in 10 different levels including Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest, the Colosseum of Rome, a futuristic New York, and an underwater cave.

"Toxic Grind brings something different to the extreme sports video game genre," said Peter Dille, vice president of marketing at THQ. "Toxic Grind is more than just learning how to pull off tricks. Mission and story-based gameplay adds another level of interactivity rarely seen in action sports games."

Toxic Grind for the Xbox is now available in stores across North America and is scheduled for release in Europe on November 8. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.
