THQ rolling out more Cars

More games based on the Pixar film Cars coming off assembly line; Cars Mater-National coming this fall to 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, DS, GBA.

When it comes to obtaining the rights to make games based on films, most publishers are content to release a game to coincide with a movie's release then go on about their business.

THQ, on the other hand, doesn't mind taking that license to the next level and releasing multiple games based on films, television shows, or other properties. The publisher has a long-standing relationship with Disney-Pixar and has made multiple titles based on The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo.

Now it appears as though THQ is sticking with that trend with the most recent Pixar release, Cars. The company released the Cars game alongside the film last July, and today announced that it is currently working on Cars Mater-National, a new game based on the animated movie.

Cars Mater-National is in development at Rainbow Studios for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2, DS, and Game Boy Advance. THQ expects the game to be in stores this fall.

The game will focus on events surrounding the first Mater-National Race Festival, and will feature a new cast of characters all vying for the title. THQ promises that the world of Radiator Springs will be "new and improved" and feature new tracks, multiplayer games, and minigames.

after reading some bad user comments on Cars I was actually impressed to find out that the game is not that bad after all. It had its moments. X3 for instance is much worse...

This would be because THQ's license agreement with Pixar is ending and so they might as well get as much mileage as they can from the agreement while it lasts.

this is just what we need.. more crappy racing games.. and while NFS goes south and every other game trys to emulate The Fast an the furious i fear there is no hope for my favorite genre.......

Since the last CARS game was one of the worst racing games EVER, my hopes aren't very high

Given that the target audience of these games tends to be children, I'm surprised to think of them investing in the development of HD versions (PS3 and 360) of a game for that segment. Most people aren't trying to plunk down $60 on a game for a kid.

This doesn't really interest me :? So I guess I'll pass...

I don't realy play move tie-in games unless they're really good (Chronicles of Riddick for example is a rare game that's better than the movie... of course that movie sucked really badly but...) but as long as they're decent and fun for the target audience, I can't complain too much. It's as others have said, the publishers have to pay the bills. And if the masses who aren't "hardcore" like a lot of us are buy these games.. then they pay for the publishers' ability to fund the the stuff we -do- like, and that's not a bad thing at all. If Cars Mater-National helps pay for Dawn of War 2 for instance, I'll be happy. I just wish Companies like Atari could do stuff like this so I wouldn't have to put up with a released 2 years early and chock too full of bugs and feature-incomplete game like Neverwinter Nights 2.

Cars wasn't too shabby. It was a short, sweet, tight game that was some-what fun for adults too. I can see the reason of releasing a sequel since it was successful and THQ is probably hurtin' for the money. But, I won't buy it.

Remember, they are in business to make money. Movie-licensed games make money. Gotta pay the bills, after all.

SNORE! wth is wrong with thq? cars 2 will suck 2 times harder than cars. Its a tride and true formula proven over the last 20 years. bad game # 2 is 2x badder than bad game # 1 because it is the same but unorigonal!

DameonAngell

If they made the game to be like Mario Kart. Tight controls, power ups and creative tracks... it could be a sleeper hit on Xbox Live. But, if they continue to make it some "adventure" game .. it'll blow goats.

For a movie-tie in, an A rating on Gamespot is pretty good. I hope this one turns out better.

Oh god not another game based on a kids movie! The movie was good but the games always suck.

Hedfix

Not garbage, but the less simplified mode was still far too easy. There was no challenge to the main storymode at all.

apwc
apwc

Why are people bashing this game? The last one wasn't bad, in fact it was a far more competent racer than some other more popular games. Just because it's aimed at kids, doesn't mean it's garbage.....pshh haters

Hedfix

There was no challenge besides the rather dull 'collect the postcards' stuff and the poorly made police chase game.

NY_Yankees_Fan
NY_Yankees_Fan

This game just won't cut it,even the Xbox 360 version of the game was horrible from gameplay to graphics, and it lacked customization and a good story to go along with it,but who knows?,it was a top-selling game mostly for kids and many people enjoyed it,so maybe a sequel might be a good thing, maybe?

wwonka666
wwonka666

Well, Cars did very well so THQ is gonna cash-in. It actually wasn't that bad of a game people. It had outstanding graphics on the 360 and playing it was quite enjoyable.
