THQ gets Warhammer 40,000

The game company secures the rights to Games Workshop's popular sci-fi wargaming universe.

THQ today announced that it has secured the interactive game license to Warhammer 40,000. The deal gives THQ exclusive rights to publish games for PC and console systems based on Games Workshop's popular Warhammer 40,000 sci-fi wargaming universe. In addition, THQ and Games Workshop will work together to create Warhammer 40,000 games for wireless Internet, cellular, and PDA devices. THQ also announced that its first Warhammer 40,000 game is scheduled for release in late 2002.

Warhammer 40,000 was originally developed as a miniatures wargaming system. It has been used in a number of PC games, including SSI's Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000 , Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000 , Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000 .
