It has been rumoured for some time that next year's Thor: Ragnarok will take inspiration from Planet Hulk, a comic book series in which Hulk battled monsters on the alien planet Sakaar. This has finally been confirmed by director Taiki Waititi.

In a new interview with Total Film, Waititi spoke about the use of Sakaar as one of the movie's main locations. "Sakaar was just an insane, far-off futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters," he said, via MCU Exchange.

Total Film also states that the movie will see Thor reunite with Hulk, who "has made a name for himself as a gladiator" on the planet. In July, images were released from the production that revealed the gladiator armor that Hulk will wear in the film.

Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, with Mark Ruffalo playing Hulk's alter ego Bruce Banner once more. The impressive cast also includes the likes of Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, and Jeff Goldblum. Blanchett is rumored to be playing the villainous Hela, while Goldblum will portray immortal games-playing Grandmaster.

Loki actor Tom Hiddleston will also be making a return to the Marvel universe in the movie. Hiddleston hasn't appeared in a Marvel film since 2013's Thor: The Dark World. He did shoot a cameo for last year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, but this was ultimately cut.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
