This World of Warcraft Player Has 100 Max-Level Characters

Extremely dedicated player reaches incredible milestone, now eyeing 1,000 max-level characters.

It's not uncommon for World of Warcraft players to have multiple max-level characters, but one gamer has taken things to the next level. As discovered by Kotaku, WoW player Watola recently completed a quest to level an incredible 100 characters to the game's current level cap of 100.

In a lengthy post on the Battle.net forums, Watola explains how he achieved the incredible feat.

"Last night I finally completed my goal of 100 level 100s. I started this project near the end of Mists of Pandaria, at the time of starting I had already leveled around 20 characters to max level so another 80 didn't seem that extreme," he said.

Watola explains that the actual playtime required to level all characters to 100 wasn't "as massive as it may at first seem." One way he rose fast was by leveling two characters at the same time using the performance boosts provided by WoW's Recruit A Friend promotion.

It took around 5-8 hours of gametime to level these characters to 85, Watola says. Other strategies employed included always tanking instances and skipping certain dungeons such as Throne of Tides.

Watola adds that he didn't see much of the beta for WoW's latest expansion, Warlords of Draenor, and went into it basically blind to complete the leveling process up to 100. He also provided a breakdown of clear-times for the following high-level zones.

  • Frostfire Ridge - 1 hour and 6 minutes
  • Shadowmoon Valley - 44 minutes
  • Gorgrond - 42 minutes
  • Talador - 40 minutes
  • Spires of Arak - 39 minutes
  • Nagrand - 30 minutes

It might sound surprising, but Watola says, "I don't particularly enjoy leveling, and even less do I enjoy questing." Instead, he said he loves taking on big projects and learning new things about the game.

Going forward, Watola says currently thinking about what it might take to achieve 1,000 max-level characters.

"I love branching out from what I have learned to discover new things, figure out ways to do things better and faster," he says. "It's what motivates me to take on projects others would not even consider. I loved the journey and I am more than satisfied with the results."

Watola's post is incredibly detailed and well worth a read for WoW fans looking for fast-leveling tips.

Stop judging this guy and insulting him to feel bigger and the best, you're all pathetic. He can be a rich guy or someone who can play at work, like many people do, so stop it you pathetic kids, yeah you're pathetic and unoriginal, every time there's a WoW related news you "genius" come out with: "He must be fat", he must be virgin" or "he needs a life", stop it your just looking stupid and more useless that you really are.

That's pretty extreme.  Personally, I like to have fun while playing games.

I have always had one character in WOW, and today I actually started to branch out and work on a character for each class, because I never really have done that before.

I won't have them all to level 100 for some time, probably not even my main.  I'll just switch to whichever one I'm in the mood to play as.

But 1000 characters?  Let alone 100?  It just seems kind of insane to me.  In fact...  Can one account even have 100 characters?

Hold on, what happened to WoW? Back when I played Vanilla, even experienced players couldn't get to 60 in less than a week playtime.

damn, this guy needs to get outside.

I guess going to 1000 will be made a lot easier when he can just buy 90% of the way there! (Ding!, 90!. *Thank you for your money sucker - Blizzard*). :D

He doesn't like leveling or questing, but he likes taking on big projects? Perhaps there's something a bit more productive he could be doing then?

Having 100 max-level characters is one thing, having 100 characters with names that don't all sound ridiculous is another. ;)

Leveling is arguably the worst part of the game, seriously, the amount of patience that would take. I'd probably be suffering depression or PTSD by the end of it.

How can playing the game even be enjoyable for him at this point?

I feel like the community should be talking him out of this, not supporting it. Remind them there's a world outside to find achievement in. Gaming is best when it compliments our lives, not when it is our lives.

I would literally have killed myself, in the face, before I let myself make more than 3 max level characters. I had 3 85s when Pandaria came out and I quit after 9 years.

Say he accomplishes 1000 characters at level 100; on his death bed will he look back and think, "I have but 999 regrets..."?

How very politically correct.

If this was PC Gamer they'd have found a way to call him a complete god damned loser, without those words.

This guy must be quite the pu$$y magnet.

it's his life, but I think it's a colossal waste of time that he could put towards something more productive. This isn't even playing games for enjoyment, there's no point having that many characters just to have them sit around at max level in scrub gear unplayed

"I don't particularly enjoy leveling, and even less do I enjoy questing."

Really... so you pour hours of your personal time doing something you don't enjoy. What is the point then? Games are for fun. This is why I didn't get far in a game like DayZ because I spend more time not enjoying it than otherwise.

Life or no life, you really have to admire this guy's dedication and/or insanity.

Ok, let's talk, people.

We all love games, here. That's why we come to this site. To read about games. We all probably have spent hundreds or even thousands of hours playing games. It's a hobby we enjoy, sometimes a little too much, but for the most part, we live our lives decently enough and reward ourselves at the end of the day (or all day cause we're "sick") with some games, and move on to the next one. That being said:

WHAT THE FLYING FÜCK IS WRONG WITH THIS LOSER?!?! GET.   A.    LIFE.

MY GOD.

So?  Leveling is a joke in WoW, not like that's an accomplishment.

Also, yet another copy/paste from Kotaku.  Why don't you just go work there, Eddie?

@RapidFirE53211 It probably isn't.  It's just an achievement for him now.  Climbing a mountain because it's there.

@AyatollaofRnR  Yeah!  The Secret World!

Honestly, you don't know this guy's situation.  Is he retired?  Maybe he inherited a ton of money and has no need to work?  Is he even a "he"?

@nurnberg Here you are, another genial i-d-i-o-t. He can be rich and have all the time he wants to play and do whatever he wants without having to read idiotic and biased comments like yours.

Cruxis27

@Hurvl @Cruxis27 This degree of dedication is very rare in the real world. I don't know about you but if I had 1/2 of this guy's drive I could apply to my life that would be awesome.

kinglink2112

@ciccicocci @spikepigeo something tells me that you are a little bit too offended by these comments, it is people's opinion that he needs to get a life and all that, I personally couldn't fathom putting that much effort into this project, partly because I get distracted easily while playing, say, Minecraft, Diablo, Destiny, that sort of stuff, but no matter the circumstance, 100 max-level characters on something that you don't enjoy (I'm not saying about the big project or anything) seems like a massive waste of time in my honest opinion.
