This Is What Destiny Looks Like Running on PlayStation Vita

Sony shows off Bungie's upcoming shooter running on the PlayStation Vita through Remote Play and talks about its controls.

Ahead of Destiny's much-anticipated release next week, Sony has published a video showing off how the game runs on PlayStation Vita using Remote Play. According to Sony, developer Bungie "optimized" Destiny's controls for Remote Play, including touch-screen controls for lobbing grenades.

Check out the video above to see Destiny running on PlayStation Vita. Sony has also provided a diagram of the Destiny PS Vita control scheme, which you can see below.

Remote Play for Destiny was a popular feature during the game's beta this summer, according to PlayStation social media manager Sid Shuman. He writes on the PlayStation Blog that Destiny was the number one overall PlayStation 4 Remote Play game during the entire month of July.

Destiny launches September 9 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Though publisher Activision describes the PC as a "natural fit" for Destiny, the game is not coming to that platform, at least not at launch. GameSpot will have much more on Destiny next week. Who wants to take their hand off the controls to use the touchscreen? Not me.

I own a VITA and have to say I'm pretty disapointed by the device thus far.  I own most of the games that are worth having on this thing (mostly fighters).  I didn't buy this console for it to be a streaming device.  I don't know why they just don't go ahead and put a PS2 emulator on the thing so we can at least use the thing to play PS2 classics on.  I would at least be able to say the VITA is a competitive choice in the handheld market then.

Say what you will about the Vita, it's still a sexy as hell piece of kit.

I can't think of any other handheld that could even run Destiny, never mind look that good.

Yes, but what does Destiny look like running on a Gameboy? That is what everyone wants to know.

Right now PS4 and XB1 need an AAA game and this fills the void.  PS3 and XB360 have Millions of consoles sold and this is a huge title that could make millions.

On PC there a a huge number of similar games, and Other games that have their devotes. I wonder  how many people would buy the game on PC and pay for the DLC to follow?

I'm selling my tablet and using the money to get a vita..

There should be a PC version. It sounds more like a paid console exclusivity thing.

I wouldn't call the Vita dead yet if it's still comfortably sold more worldwide than the Wii U. But I'm loving both my Vita and Wii U so I really don't care what you gnomes have to say. ;)

So this is basically the fate of the vita then? Forever an overly expensive ps4 controller.

To this point I've been able to avoid the impulse to pick up the PS4, but this is such a cool feature! I'll still probably play on 360 since that's where my buddies will be playing, but it's very enticing. Props Sony!

The Vita really is a neat device - such a shame it's struggling

@ecurl143 Not good for me as I don't have internet that fast plus don't wanna pay for PS Now prices.  I don't own a PS4 and have no plans to own one either.

Yea kinda like how the 3DS is going to steam the upcoming dragon quest game from the cloud, right genius?

Yea..kinda like how the 3DS is streaming the upcoming dragon quest game, Right?

@ecurl143  any device can run it as long as it supports the streaming service. The Vita itself isn't running anything. This has nothing to do about how great Vita is.

@Ravenlore_basic The game is not on pc.

@PayneKiller Though I love my vita, and use it as a tablet, and gaming system, It is not supported by many software support. Sure you can check your email, and go online, but most website, or apps are not supported, so I would keep your tablet, unless it sucks, and you don't use it.

@Gen007 Hardly.  I can play my PS4 games when traveling without having my PS4.  My entire library is on my PS4 as well, so I don't have to swap disks.

@Gen007 Yeah, everyone knows the Vita only has remote play and has no games. *Goes back to playing Velocity 2X on Vita*

Barighm

@Gen007 Which is kinda funny given the game likely play poorly on a Vita. Even funnier if there is some kind of port to plug in a USB controller.

@Flyin3lvl Remote play pretty much works with everything on PS4. It's literally like a remote desktop to your PS4.

@megakick No, I'm pretty sure the WiiU can't do it because the WiiU ain't getting Destiny.

@megakick Yes, and better quality gameplay plus separate game collections for each. MUCH FACTS!!!

What's the joke fanboy? That's exactly what remote play is...

xantufrog
xantufrog

@alaannn in terms of latency the ideal scenario is to connect directly to your home network. But you can also connect through the internet, so in theory you could play your PS4 from the other side of the world (but latency will suffer)

hoyholyhoy
hoyholyhoy

@pnova There are no 4K supported games on console yet, so any 4K TV will output any games at their highest optimized resolution (which for PS4 is usually 1080p (some games around 900p)) but that's not to say in the future we can't see 4K games on current gen. Only time will tell!

xantufrog
xantufrog

@kyelo give it a go! There will probably be lag but I've read a number of reviews where people had success playing remotely from work or whatever. Now, yours sounds like the most extreme of those cases, but... if your wifi is fast then it might still be tolerable

mjonk2pc
mjonk2pc

Why would you have to pay ps now for anything if you didn't want to use it? Streaming from ps4 to vita is all about how fast your router is. Nothing to do with ps now.

ecurl143

@cvantu On the contrary, it has everything to do with the devices capability with processing power and graphical capabilities.

Let me put it another way - this would not be possible on an Nintendo DS or a 3DS for that matter, or any other handheld come to think of it.

I am not including other smart devices such as an Ipad or Samsung Galaxy Tab for instance, I'm talking about dedicated hand-held consoles and in that regard, the Vita is probably the only device out there that is capable of anything like this.

Remote Play even works on phones now.

Silverline62

@ecurl143 @cvantu It totally would, like Cvantu said any device could run it as long as the proper streaming is supported.
