This Is What an Emoji Movie Looks Like

What a time to be alive.

A movie about emojis is being made. This was confirmed earlier this year by Sony Pictures. Now, we know what it looks like--and the first trailer is kind of weird.

We see a "meh" emoji talking about how unexcited he is about the prospect of a movie about emojis becoming a reality. Check it out below.

"Inside your phone, there's a secret world–and we enter through the text app where we discover emoji Valley, where the industrious Emoji live and work," Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson said about the film earlier this year.

As rumored, The Emoji Movie, as it's called, will be co-marketed and sponsored by real-world app makers. The teaser trailer shows a phone with a full suite of apps installed, including those for Just Dance and Candy Crush, as well as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and others.

According to Sony, the emoji characters discover in the movie that every smartphone app has a world to explore, in turn leading to ample opportunities for other branding deals. Today's trailer calls the movie just the first one, suggesting more could come later.

Anthony Leondis (Lilo and Stitch 2) and Eric Siegel (Men at Work) are writing the film. Sony acquired the rights to the movie after a "multi-studio bidding war" last year, paying over $1 million for it.

The Emoji Movie hits theaters on August 4, 2017.
