You play as a "fun-loving" fox named Lucky and will travel through a "charming new world, with dozens of locales and lush environments."

The game was developed by Words With Friends co-creator Paul Bettner's studio, Playful. Bettner himself backed Oculus Rift on Kickstarter with a $5,000 pledge, which gave him the opportunity to visit Oculus HQ in 2012 and check out an early version of the headset.

"It was clear from the beginning that he and the Playful team saw the potential of VR," Oculus said. "They created dozens of game prototypes for Rift over the last three years. Their passion for creating fun, awe-inspiring VR games shows in one of the most unique experiences that will launch on Rift next year."

Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey also sounds pretty jazzed about Lucky's Tale.

"We always believed there was an opportunity for platformers in VR, but it wasn't until playing Lucky's Tale and working with the Playful team that we truly realized its potential to change how people view this genre of gaming forever," he said in a statement. "Lucky's Tale delivers on everything you want in a next-generation VR game--it's thrilling, full of adventure, and incredibly fun to play."

If you preorder an Oculus Rift headset, you'll also get a free copy of Eve: Valkyrie. The headset is due out during the first quarter of 2016, and also comes with an Xbox One controller.

Pricing for the Oculus Rift headset package has not been announced, but it will be above $350.
