You might not have played EVE Online, but if you follow game news at all, you've probably at least heard about it by now.

The space massively multiplayer online game produces some intriguing stories about corporate espionage and huge space battles that result in an estimated $300,000 in damages.

However, you may still not understand how and why so many people play it. In this latest trailer, developer CCP tries to explain just that.

Last September, CCP asked players in the community to record and share their most memorable moments from in-game voice chats. The trailer uses that real player audio and in-game footage edited by CCP's cinematics team to portray what it's like to play EVE Online.

Even if you have no plans to delve into the crazy world of intergalactic trade, it's a great trailer well worth checking out.

CCP revealed the trailer at its EVE Down Under event in Sydney. The next expansion for the game, Rhea, is coming on December 9, and you can read more about it on the game's website. CCP is also working on EVE: Valkyrie, a dogfighting game for the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus virtual reality headsets.
