Third-party devs listed for Sony NGP

Sony touts strong external software support for new handheld; more than 80 Japanese and Western companies signed up for releases.

by

This is what the NGP's home screen will look like.

Sony's PSP successor--dubbed the Next Generation Portable (NGP)--was finally unveiled in Tokyo today, along with a small group of games that were confirmed as being under development for the new machine. While games such as Naughty Dog's Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4 from Konami, and Call of Duty from Activision were some of the highlights, it seems Sony is planning plenty more titles in the pipeline. While only a handful of developers and games were showcased at today's Tokyo announcement, it seems the Japanese hardware giant already has 82 third-party publishers signed up from across Japan, the United States, and Europe.

The bulk of the early support comes from Sony's home nation, with 48 companies confirmed by Sony as making NGP games. Major studios in the list include Capcom, Namco Bandai, Grasshopper, Level 5, Sega, Square Enix, and more. European companies include Ubisoft and Codemasters, while the Americas have 2K, Activision, Rockstar, Warner Bros Interactive, and more.

I want to see Konami working on Coded Arms: Assault for the NGP. it would make sense too since there other coded arms game (contagion) was on the original psp. PS. Coded Arms: Assault was not cancelled. it was merely a delay since they were working on MGS4 at the time and the manager stated "we are not working on Coded Arms: Assault AT THIS TIME"

@mariokart64fan If the initial ngps can display games on a tv I'd consider doing the same thing. Hopefully they add in the option to play it on tv's on the 1st iteration this time around instead of waiting a year or two to let people do it.

EA is the biggest missing name but there's no chance they'll be skipping out.

Now lets just hope most of these devs dont half@$$ makin games for it. And i think it would have been better if Square held off FF Agito on the psp to redevelope it for the psp2 as a launch title. If it gets a digital option then i may get it 4 the NGP.

This NGP PSP 2 is about the games first. Make them good ones. 3rd party developers. Don't rush them. Launch titles don't have to bomb!

Hmm seems Sony was planning on bringing a beat down on the 3DS nice surprise attack on Nintendo Congrats to Sony fighting a four way war with 3D, motion, portable, and next gen gaming.

@zMd113 nope, they are making one. Judging from an article back when the rumours still out. EA said that they already making PSP2 game but would not tell what or when it will be out. Besides, this is merely a support. Doesn't mean that games will comes out from them. We'll just have to wait till it officially on the market.

@DarkNeoBahamut I agree, the only downside to the PSPGo and this new NGP is that all of us old school PSP users are being somewhat forced as UMD will be a thing of the past and we need a way to play classic PSP games on a newer handheld. Nintendo did it for their GBA cartridges, Sony please follow suit

@gamekin92 @tjoeb123 Guerrilla Games and Naughty Dog are all first party developers as Sony owns them both.

There are some good companies, but I would like to see a list of actual games coming from them like we did with the 3ds when it was being shown at E3.
