Thief preorders unlock Bank Heist mission

Square Enix reveals preorder bonus for 2014 stealth-action game.

by

Gamers who preorder 2014's Thief reboot will receive an "exclusive" Bank Heist mission, publisher Square Enix announced today.

The Bank Heist mission will task players with infiltrating the Stonemarket First Bank as they attempt to steal a family heirloom called the Star of Auldale.

"To this day, this heavily guarded and treacherous place remains impregnable, but that's about to change…," reads the mission's description.

The Bank Heist mission will reportedly put players' thieving skills "to the test," as they will need to outsmart security measures only found in the mission. Square Enix described the mission as a "true homage" to the Bank mission in Thief II: The Metal Age.

Thief will be released on February 25, 2014 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. A Wii U version is not in development.

I'm well aware of the "Bank mission" of T2 I hope they do it justice by making it just as big and just as awesome.

I am quite interested by this new game since I loved Deadly Shadows but I hope that add a New Game+ mode or something similar.

That's the thief in the wanted poster right? Cause if not, it would be cool if we had "vigilante" missions/side quests for gold...I never played a Thief game so I don't know how or if it would work.

I was going to pre order this game. well, not anymore.

I Never buy games which have content removed before release.

If it's already complete put it in the freaking game. Stop wasting my time having to put a stupid code in to download something that should already be in the game to begin with!

thief 2....if it should live up to at least 50 percent of that game then it will be a stunner

Sorry Square, I'm highly suspicious of this game.  You'll get no preorder from me.

"outsmart security measures only found in the mission"

Mechanist security eyes and metal beasts?  They did say homage to Thief 2 bank mission.

Content behind preorder? Hi Piratebay!

xsonicchaos

Seriously, Square, ya lousy bums? You're so desperate for day one sales that you need to cut content from the main game and serve it as a bonus? Really, this is what gaming has become today? Microtransactions and DLCs with onlly a skin, a weapon or even f**kin' skills and upgrade points to help rich people with small brains have an easier game? And now it's a normal thing to just cut content out of the game and sell it to those that can afford to buy a game day one without thinking it might suck or that they might not even be able to play it. Basically, you're telling people that spend their money wisely and wait for a price drop or at least a review to go f**k themselves, because you want the money. Well whoop dee f**kin' doo, you selfish basterds! I hope you choke on my pre-order money!

I hate when stuff like this gets torn from the game to be presented as Pre-order bonus or DLC. Why don't you give us a free OST, dev commentary, PS/Xbox skins, posters, in-game armor/weapon skins, "head-start", pre-loads... heck, even some items/boosts for MP but PLEASE, don't mess with the SP content that actually provides gameplay.

How long until we only get Easy and Medium difficulty choice for games and to play on Hard or Insane, we'll need to pre-order or buy DLC? Or maybe halfway through the games we'll be prompted to buy DLC to see how the story ends....

It's like Hitman's Sniper Challenge. This is actually a very good way to do pre-order bonuses.

Punished for not blindly throwing your money at a game before reviews. Its terrible....evil infact.

I don't care when they give (overpowered) preorder weapons, but a full mission like this? Fuck that. It should be a part of the full game.

Fuck exclusives. They're a great way to give your consumers the finger.

"Work hard? Bills to pay? Family to help support? Then you're going to love the in-game exclusives that you won't get to play because you're never in a situation where it's financially viable to pre-order!"

Seriously, this whole pre-order thing is bullshit and it reeks of the insecurity that publishers and/or retailers suffer from. It's so important that they make as much money as possible and because they're so terrified that one bad review could ruin their chances they want consumers to promise to get the game before it's out. Of course, normally that'd never work. If they were honest about their reasons who'd go for it? So that's where these pre-order "bonuses" come in.

Why should a consumer cough up $60 for a game they never played only for some "exclusive" DLC made by a company with a track record of slashing the price of the game to $20 within a year?

Also not to mention the game has a good chance of being crap. Same goes with Capcom.

Give us Dragon Quest X already!

@haze0986 Getting around without being seen was the point of the game.  You COULD fight, but you were almost always outmatched.  The fun came from slipping by unnoticed, or knocking out unsuspecting guards.

Alpha_Wolf30
Alpha_Wolf30

@haze0986 Depends on the game. Metal Gear Solid, for example, has alot of that but their are certain parts where you must come out of hiding (i.e. Boss battle, walk into a trap, etc) . Ive never played Thief before so I cant say what level of stealth is involved but i am looking forward to this one

there's no justification for your pathetic stealing. If you don't want a game, don't even touch it.

@zaxrider See Metro last light for the Hard mode unlock DLC. Sadly, I'm not joking.

@dipdish

for me, right now it looks like a very dumbed-down game with lots of handholding and, probably, with no way of canceling those features.

@Shanks_D_Chop  dont have the money to pre order?  wait uintill they release a version including all the dlc  for cheapet than just the game at launch, great deal if you care to wait.

You get more for less, if you can handle waiting.

@POKE777GM Just a heads up, this game is developed by Eidos not Square Enix(Publisher), so its development doesn't affect any SE games like Dragon Quest.

Bangerman15

@POKE777GM gamestop is only 5 bucks to preorder.  I agree with the price slashing though.  SE, EA, and Ubisoft slash their prices kind of quick.

@shingui5 @aovannor I do want the game. I just don't agree with these shitty business practices.. and I put my money where my mouth is.

Shanks_D_Chop
Shanks_D_Chop

@deskp @Shanks_D_Chop Which is why Steam is so good. I've gotten a few games bundled with their "exclusive pre-order bonus" DLC for less than a quarter of the price at release.

This doesn't solve the bigger issue, however. I feel that one of the very real problems that the industry has these days is that of expectation. Just like many modern films will be judged almost entirely on their box-office performance many games companies take the view that if they don't manage to shift millions within the first few days then they've failed. Which can, in the worst case, lead to series being outright axed.

Bangerman15
Bangerman15

@Shanks_D_Chop @deskp On top of Steam, games tend to drop in price in as little as a month to a a couple of months on there.  I love it.  In general though, it seems like game prices drop a lot quicker on all platforms nowadays.
