Thief confirmed for current-gen

Eidos Montreal bringing stealth game to Xbox 360 and PS3 in addition to next-gen and PC in 2014.

Eidos Montreal today announced that the upcoming stealth action game Thief is coming to current-generation systems, including the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The new versions of the game will launch in 2014 alongside the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC iterations. No mention was made of a Wii U version.

Development on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Thief is being handled internally at Eidos Montreal.

Explaining the differences between current-generation and next-generation versions, producer Stéphane Roy said it was "really, really important" to make sure the core gameplay--the "fun factor"--remained intact across console generations.

PC is Next Gen all the time....NOT CURRENT GEN

C'mon Eidos. Where is the Soul Reaver reboot/sequel?

Next-gen SOUL REAVER, PLEASE.

This is great news! I don't plan to buy a PS4 for at least a year or two after launch. I never trust first edition consoles. They tend to have a higher chance of failure since the manufacturers haven't worked the bugs out yet. Thief was one of the few games that made me consider changing my mind about that. Assuming they can pull it off dumbing down the graphics a bit and maybe reworking AI I am definitely stoked. I loved the last game and feel it still holds up today as a great game. If I can get that same thrill on a less pretty version of the new game, I'm ok with that.

Wii U version, plox.  At this point, there's no excuse.

Will the game be compromising to the hardware limitations?

Can't wait. Still playing the old original XBOX version on my 360. Except the little square is hard to get used to since it is not in wide screen.

Great way to make a dramatic increase in sales. I will probably purchase for the PS4.

I just lost half my interest in the game.

Not spending $400 on a new console to play generational breaches like this.

Honestly it looks nothing like next-gen to be exclusive to it.

Just because its being ported to current-gen consoles doesn't mean the PC and next-gen versions will suffer...the game will only be dumbed down for PS3 and X360...PC and next-gen versions will remain as it is...stop crying...Jesus.

from the demos this game looks like a typical current gen game anyway.

As great as this is, I can't imagine ANYONE that buys a PS4 or Xbox One will buy this on current gen consoles.

I hope Eidos doesnt set their projections to sell 1000 million billion copies thus missing projected profits.

I thought the game seemed a bit graphically "bland" for a supposedly only for "next gen" game.

As the grandfather of stealth-oriented games, it's good to see Thief get a worthy update.  The trailer left me a little cold though.  I don't like hearing folks speaking in modern colloquial English in period pieces.  It's one of the reasons I couldn't get through the Prince of Persia (the one with the female sidekick)...Prince of Malibu was more like it.

Don't judge before to see the full game

You guys, come on, give Eidos a break.  I'm sure they're going to do right by the Thief series so let's all give them the benefit of the d-pffftbahahahaa, oh my god.....Oh man....I couldn't even type that with a straight face.

The demo of this game looked so lame to me. Splinter cell Blacklist looks better, plus Spies vs mercs

@darkjedilink

the excuse is if it doesn't sell due to the small market share of the Wii U, they loose money on it.

@RussellGorall Uhhh, welcome to a new console generation.  The Xbox 360 and PS3 launched with a crap-ton of dual-gen games.

@Navardo95  Money and resources come from sky right .? Current gen also have totally different architecture , I call it waste of time at this point to port something on current gen .

@SuperDutchy Of course not, but porting it to the 360 isn't for the people who buy XboxOne.... it's for the people who don't.... and there will be plenty of gamers who won't be buying One or PS4 until it's been out for a while.

Hey, dude, Prince of Malibu was a Gnarly game brah!  I hear they're getting Keanu Reeves to play the prince in the next Prince of Malibu movie.  Basically, the Prince is going to be all like "Nah man, you evil Sultan, don't be taking over persia with your lame dictatorship!" While being in a garage band: Wyld Stallyns 2!!!!

WYLD STALLYNS!!! *frantic air guitar*

@Fo_Fai You know, just let them do their best. Eidos makes pretty damn good games, and you can't deny that. Take off your nostalgia goggles and see the game for what it could potentially be, which looks to be awesome.

@malokevi You can't be serious.  Splinter Cell Conviction 2.0 Now with Absolutely No Michael Ironside Edition?  That game looks like utter rubbish.  I sure as hell won't be buying that game with all the stupid comments Jade Raymond has made over the past few months concerning the series.

@Cloud_imperium By porting it to current gen, they stand to make a lot more money off of the game. There's already an installed fanbase of millions on ps3 and 360. Next gen systems aren't going to see those numbers for a few years at least. Yes that means spending a bit more to port it, but it also means making the game available to millions more people and having a much higher profit potential

@mastermetal777 @Fo_Fai I was mostly being facetious as I have never played any of the previous Thief games.  But yes you have a point.  Let's just pray it's better than the Godawful Tomb Raider reboot.

@Fo_Fai idk man, spies vs mercs is pretty damn tempting. That and midtown madness got ALOT of multiplayer play from me on my original xbox.

He might be talking about one of the previous Tomb Raider reboots.  Anniversary maybe?  I don't know, haven't played a single Tomb Raider game.

Exploration/Puzzler/Platformer Adventures are a genre I rarely play.  Female character or no.  I did enjoy Beyond Good and Evil, though.
