Theatrhythm Final Fantasy rocking February 2012 in Japan
Music rhythm 3DS title to feature more than 50 songs from franchise; Aerith, Vivi, Cid, and more added to cast.
The Final Fantasy series is renowned not just for its story, but also for its huge library of music. Square Enix's music library for the franchise is so big and popular that it has spawned concerts like Distant Worlds and, most recently, an upcoming rhythm game called Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. The company recently finalized the Japanese release date of the 3DS title on its official website: February 16, 2012.
The game will feature more than 50 songs from throughout the Final Fantasy series. Players have to hit inputs to the beat of the song using the 3DS's touch screen. The game will also feature SpotPass options.
On a related note, newly announced characters in the rhythm title include Snow (Final Fantasy XIII), Aerith (Final Fantasy VII), Vivi (Final Fantasy IX), Prishe (Final Fantasy XI), Faris (Final Fantasy V), Cid (Final Fantasy III), and Princess Sara (Final Fantasy). These characters can be recruited and unlocked by collecting crystal fragments in-game.
Square Enix has yet to announce a North American version of the game. For more information, check out GameSpot's coverage of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy from the 2011 Tokyo Game Show.
