The World Cup Comes to Kerbal Space Program With Its First Official Mod

Developer Squad has released a mod bringing soccer to the popular spacecraft-building game.

by

Kerbal Space Program, the spacecraft construction simulator, is getting a bit of a soccer makeover to celebrate the World Cup. Developer Squad recently launched Kerbin Cup, the first official mod, which brings soccer balls and flags to adorn your Kerbal ships.

The mod adds two sizes of soccer balls to the game: the first matches the Kerbal creatures that fly the ships, the other is rocket-sized. 32 flags for all 32 countries who made it to the World Cup are also in the mod.

You can pick up the completely free mod on Curse. Squad will be running contests and giveaways throughout the World Cup using the mod and the Kerbal Space Program communities. The game is discounted during the Steam Summer Sale going on now.

Finish the dang game and I will give you money. It looks interesting, but no one gets my money on an unfinished product.

Putting the Kerbals in Mun and getting them back with a ship/pod intact is the greatest sense of achievement I ever had in a game. Are they going to add planetary colonies in the future?

This game needs so much work. It's far from complete.

ON: I have been seeing screenshots made with this stuff for quite a while now, seems like this article is a bit late.

nevermind though, it's a completely unimportant, worthless mod.

This is what it would take to make soccer even remotely entertaining. Launching it into space.

Or at least as far away from Earth as humanly possible.

Finally, an E-Sport I would enjoy watching!

I love KSP but that's about worthless.  Instead of this garbage how about finishing up the ingame economy or other useful features?

@MAD_AI The first time I ever landed a Kerbal on Mun I jumped up out of my seat and ran through my apartment yelling "I LANDED ON THE MOON!"

@Ripper_TV True. But it's still far more complete than anything that came out in the last decade. You'll probably last at least a few hundred hours before burning out.

@spikepigeo ooooh, this is so much fun!

I live in Europe, so you know what is even MORE fun than listening to ignorant, peasant Hungarians being uppity, and telling everyone how darn stupid and narrowminded those Americans and their sports are?

It's listening to stupid, narrowminded Americans telling ignorant, peasant Europeans how stupid their sports are.

Now you can go on pretending you don't like it because you have an elevated level of intelligence, but the truth is you don't like it simply because you haven't been conditioned to it since your childhood...

@Rayzakk I don't think the 3d modelers making some soccer balls is going to hinder the programmers from finishing the economy. They aren't the same people.

@Rayzakk

I don't think having a working economy is gonna make the game any better.

The career mode is a great way of not getting lost in the myriads of parts, and going slow instead, but in the end, this game is not about restrictions, like the economy system is gonna be, but the freedom to build a trebuchet out of spaceship pats, and launch your kerbal onto the top of the space center

@Rayzakk Agreed. The updates are so sllloooww. At this rate humans will actually land on Mars before Kerbal is a finished product.

@liquidbutter @MAD_AI  yeah I know that feeling shortly after that comes "right now how many redesigns and attempts is it going to take to land and get back......I need more beer"

@Glen_Runciter @spikepigeo You could have attacked me for thinking I was intelligent at all --that would have made more sense -- but instead you said that I thought I had an "elevated level of intelligence." That's a relative term. Elevated compared to what? The average person? Because, yes, technically I do, by quite a margin.

Relative to yourself? I have no way of knowing that. You seem intelligent enough, but I only have a bunch of letters, words and sentences with which to judge that.

But if you were really intelligent, you would know that this is the internet and the only reason anyone posts anything remotely controversial is to see how many likes they can get.

I got two. So as far as this ePeen pissing contest goes, I'm winning.

Hurrah for treading water!

P.S. Soccer sux d00d

@Glen_Runciter @Rayzakk  Your comment makes no sense.  It's a feature that has been promised this year so why should I not expect it.  LOL it's not about restrictions.  Wouldn't leaving out features that some want a restriction in itself.  Therefore you're trying to restrict the way I want to play in the name of being restriction free.  Hypocrisy at it's finest.

@Rayzakk you had a bad day? the other kids beat you up at school again? daddy is not allowing you to play the consoles he bought for you?

'cause you really feel like a little bitch today

@Rayzakk @Glen_Runciter wow, yren't you overreacting a bit?

all I've said was that I don't think the economy system is not gonna make a game that is about total freedom any better.

I honestly have no idea why are you so hurt about that.

@Glen_Runciter In career mode, this game needs money to build parts, and missions to get money. (etc. making and orbiting antenna at a certain route for mobile phones) also they should include caring where your debris lands.. so you don't destroy your space center .. or they should add in a city or two to care about. At least you could get a fine about that

but sandbox should stay the same... so you and we, both stay happy
