The Wonderful 101 demo hits Europe, Japan

Trial for Platinum Games' upcoming Wii U action game available in eShop today in Europe and Japan; demo coming to US later.

by

A demo for Platinum Games' upcoming Wii U action game The Wonderful 101 is now available in the European and Japanese eShops, the developer announced today during a Nintendo Direct presentation.

The demo will be released in the United States later. "Our fans in the US will have to wait a bit more, but don’t start reading any long books," Platinum Games said in a statement.

The Wonderful 101 launches August 23 in Europe and September 15 in North America. In the game, players explore various stages and recruit citizens to join their army of heroes. The more heroes a player gathers, the greater their Special Morph Powers will be.

Gamers will use the Wii U GamePad to activate these powers, which include Bonzai Man, Vending Machine Man, and Toilet Bowl Man, among others.

I think the demo was bad. You're just thrown in the game and it's unclear what to do. This is not to say the game will be bad, but I found it really chaotic and confusing. A tutorial level would've been better to get to know the basics. Having high hopes for is one, but wish I didn't play the demo, because it might give a bad example of the full game. I've had this before with other games, the best demo's are the ones that let you play the first act and an act further in the game once you're used to the mechanics.

I thought the demo was pretty good. I can't wait until it is finally released.

I don't own a Wii U but I'd buy this game if I did have one.

Played the demo yesterday and it's awesome. Very confusing at first, but when things start to clear up, it's very satisfying. Definitely getting it.

This looks like one of Mr Kiplings Exceedingly Merry Mince Pies.

I cannot wait to get a working Wii U with no wireless interference, so I can sit and play this majestically in the early hours of the morn.

This game feels like a mix between Pikmin and (oddly enough) Street Fighter. The basic special moves feel foreign at first (remember your first time mastering a ha-do-ken?) and then the depth of the game slowly reveals itself. The demo's great, but give it time. You won't be a master at it straight away. I just pre ordered. Been looking for something different for a long time and I've finally found it!

This is one of the few games I'd get for the Wii U if I ever own one. Nintendo still needs to do a lot more. 3rd Party Developers are dropping like flies from their platform.

Only 10 comments on a good Nintendo game? The "adult gamers" must still be asleep.

Love Platinum Games! Their super-stylish games always make your heart pound and blood boil just by watching them!

Is this some kinda spiritual spinoff of Viewtiful Joe?  It gives me that impression, which is a good thing.  Similar character style.

@blackace

The only ones who've been reporting that they're not supporting the Wii U have already stated that they're not supporting the Wii U a long time ago like Bethesda. Truth is there's still plenty of 3rd party support, we just keep hearing news about the SAME developers not wanting to support Nintendo.

@LauraMyLuv You'll have to talk to Capcom about that. Hideki Kamiya and Platinum Games have no control over the possibility of a Viewtiful Joe 3. Last time I checked anything about it, Capcom had no interest in continuing that series.

@ivanchiz Yeah, it is lunch hour so I will now comment.  Looks like a fun game.  Can't wait to play the demo.  I like devs/publishers who have the balls to release a demo now days.

@derceto Viewtiful Joe was good, but I'm not exaggerating when I say that the demo for W101 has more depth than an entire Viewtiful Joe game.

@derceto The first time I saw a trailer for this I got the same impression.  Glad it isn't just me.

@snugglebear @number004 have two snickers.  and leave one in the freezer for like an hour.  This way you can eat the first one while you wait for the other one to get to that perfect frosty temp.
