The Witcher dev is making a mobile game, but what could it be?

CD Projekt Red confirms mystery game has been in development for a year by a separate team; official announcement happening "very soon."

The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red is currently working on a mobile game that will launch later this year, the Polish developer said as part of its latest management report. The report was published in Polish and translated by Eurogamer.

The mobile game has been in development for more than a year, CD Projekt Red cofounder Adam Kicinski said. It's being made by a standalone team (so not The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or Cyberpunk 2077) and an official announcement is expected "very soon" with a beta test to follow.

"Smartphones and tablets are truly powerful platforms these days and are finally giving us the ability to develop mobile games we would like to play ourselves; games that are taking full advantage of newest smartphone and tablet technologies, and offer the quality level that we, as a studio, are always aiming to achieve," Kicinski said.

CD Projekt Red recently opened a new studio in Krakow to work on a "smaller" game estimated to span around 20 hours of gameplay. It's possible that the mobile game is this new game.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches February 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Cyberpunk 2077 does not have a release date yet.

This was known since 2012 that they are working on two small games that will be used to promote their next game (Witcher 3) . One of them is board game , another is mobile game .

The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt , now that will be a game worthy of a full game price .

Are they being punished and now have to sit at the kiddie table?   LOL

Is it a CCG based on the nudie cards from the first Witcher game?

This has me interested,  come on CDPR gives us the mobile revolution we need!  It won't take much, just a half decent game that lets you play any time without paying extra to remove timers... sadly yes, we're at a point where that sounds AWESOME on the mobile market....  it doesn't even have to be good... just not entirely horrible and exploitative.

It'll probably be about getting Geralt to undress for you and...do stuff. Yep I'm sure.

I just hope you don't have to unlock anything in the mobile game to get 'awesome' stuff in Witcher 3.

CD Projekt Red doing a mobile game!?!?! This news shocked me so much that I felt compelled to change this image I made, static.gamespot.com/uploads/original/105/1051846/2457214-everyone.jpg, to this, static.gamespot.com/uploads/original/105/1051846/2399628-everyone.jpg. I'm quite intrigued by their non-Witcher project Cyberpunk 2077, but I only play on PC so mobile is no (Ger)alt-ernative.

I don't really game on mobile; but if CDPR's on the project, it definitely warrants me breaking new ground into that territory.

Can they resist the urge to ruin the game with microtransactions, only time will tell.

A mobile game centered around Triss, complete with touch mechanics would be interesting. Yeah, use your imagination.

It's so funny that people actually think that CDPR shifted the premiere just to release the mobile game. I'm Polish and I watched the conference. The company is doing great, it earns money even if they aren't releasing any big titles and the mobile game is made just to hype people before the Witcher 3.

This is really idiotic. Why would CDPR want to make a mobile game?

Guys come on there are plenty of great mobile games out there. Just don't download the same crap pay to win crap. The Room, Smash Hit, Puzzle Craft, Badland, these are all awesome games and the best way to play them is with a touch screen. No really just try out any of them and then say mobile gaming is shit.

I never ever paid for a mobile game, and will not start now.  Mobile games are for when you are really, very, very bored.

I am sure that if anyone can make a proper mobile game that doesn't bring shame to the industry, it's CD Projekt Red.

@Cloud_imperium  There was a meeting for investors yesterday. Adam Kiciński, CEO of CD Projekt Group, said that mobile game isn't one of those two small games, which are developed by CDPR Kraków. Mobile game will be announced very soon.

@daviz88  What bugs me is that as it grows it sucks more and more resources away.

@YearoftheSnake5 In the Witcher games there is an Endurance bar, so why not implement that there, but make it so that some of Geralt's "activities" with Triss drain Endurance.

@gamefreak215jd  Perhaps because it was a new challenge with the promise of a little extra cash? Kinda easy to figure out actually... You didn't get any ideas? That's sad....... and idiotic

@gamefreak215jd  It's simple:

1. to make money.

2. to promote The Witcher brand.

I almost sure this game will be related with Geralt somehow. CD Projekt once had web browser game Witcher Versus, developed by Polish studio one2tribe.

Believe or not (and I'm not sure why gaming news outlets don't report it) but there is even a Double Fine mobile game Middle Manager of Justice. Yeah that's right even they make mobile games.

Me neither and would never. Dont support inferior gaming like mobile or developers shift focus. Have a galaxy 4 and absolutely no games on it.

@gamerno66666 @Thhommy  Yeah those were just the games I had on my phone, but that's the point there are hundreds of good games fot it. Saying mobile games are universally bad and not deserving attention is like saying PC games are bad because we have Alien Colonial Marines and every game is the same because of COD.
