The Typing of the Dead: Overkill released on Steam.

Guts will be spelled, says Sega.

Sega has released The Typing of the Dead: Overkill on Steam, a spelling-themed riff on the onetime Wii exclusive The House of the Dead: Overkill.

The game costs $19.99/£14.99, with a 50 percent savings in effect until November 1.

The original version of The House of the Dead: Overkill is also included, and an update allowing co-op play will be released as a free download in the future.

The House of the Dead: Overkill adopted a Grindhouse-style aesthetic and at one point boasted that it contained the most amount of swearing in a video game at the time. A PlayStation 3 version was later released in 2011, two years after the Wii original.

Cult original The Typing of the Dead was originally released in Japanese arcades in 1999, and was based on The House of the Dead 2. The game was later released for the PC in 2000, with a Dreamcast release following in 2001.

Nothing improves typing speed quite so much as a bunch of zombies with words over their heads trying to eat your brains.  I wish Sega much success with this new game, and hope it lives up to the original.

i know this hits a sorta nostalgia vibe with the long time sega fans....

i love sega. i really do.

but its games like typing of the dead that killed off the dreamcast. yeah quirky fun for the faithful and can appreciate the inherent humor of the voice acting, but to everyone else its just WTF.

i guess we can expect seaman on the horizon too.

btw i meant that in all possible ways! lol

I remember the original Typing of the Dead and how different and refreshing it seemed. I also got a "why has no one thought of this before?" feeling. I never played it, because I didn't have that good words/minute ratio, but it was really funny that such a ratio was more important than a kill/death ratio, like in most online games where you battle enemies.

Typing of the dead was my favorite game back in the day. It improved my typing speed noticeably. Still love that game, and going to purchase this new one.

I had been wanting to play Typing of the Dead for years but didn't want to shell out tons of money for an expensive Dreamcast peripheral or the physical copy of the PC version (currently over $80 on Amazon), so imagine my surprise when this showed up!  I downloaded it last night, and both the "acting" and the actual words you type are hilarious!  I was grinning the whole time.  Thanks Sega! :D

But only for Steam. . . .=( The game could work for Wii U: Just use the touchscreen as the keyboard.

@Sefrix Yeah, this game is soooo not kid friendly (especially that ending, it's seriously messed up)

@jharring yeah, damn that "expensive" Dreamcast keyboard peripheral.

@DJ_KooPee @Sefrix it's truly kid friendly, I mean if you ignore the death and blood and just pay attention to the text, then it's extremely kid friendly. lol XD
