The RZA to be in DJ Hero 2?

Two tweets from Wu-Tang Clan member indicate he is engaged in motion capture for an unnamed Activision game involving hip-hop.

Source: The Twitter feed of Wu-Tang Clan member the RZA.

What we heard: Following the Great Rhythm Game Flood of 2009, Activision decided to trim back its music-game offerings to just two in the back half of 2010. One is DJ Hero 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed original, which Activision claimed was the highest-grossing new property in the US and Europe last year. The milestone was set in no small part due to Hero's premium price point: The standard turntable-peripheral edition sold for $120, while a Renegade edition bundled with a DJ stand went for $200.

The RZA is making a hip-hop game with Activision. What could it be?

With those kinds of margins, it's little wonder Activision is giving the series a second chance. So far, though, only two artists have indicated that they'll be in the game: French house DJ and producer David Guetta and San Francisco Bay Area downtempo turntablist DJ Shadow. Now, clues are surfacing that a third artist may be on board: Wu-Tang Clan founding member and hip-hop producer the RZA.

In a pair of tweets over the weekend, the RZA, born Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, expressed his enthusiasm with a new video game project. "Just finished mocap work at Activision--great team of guys who really appreciate hip-hop. Genuinely effected by the loss of Guru," he twittered early Saturday morning, referring to last week's death of the pioneering Gang Starr frontman.

Shortly thereafter, the RZA twittered the following: "I'm delighted to see that some people in Corp America who are benefittin [sic] $$ from hip-hop are really fans of our work. Big ups Activision!"

The official story: "Activision does not comment on rumor and speculation." - Activision representative.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus. Though the RZA has some acting credits (Repo Men, American Gangster ), it's unlikely that the references to "hip-hop" and "mocap"--that is, motion capture--are for any game other than DJ Hero 2. He'd also be following in the footsteps of many other respected rappers who lent their likenesses to the first DJ Hero, including Grandmaster Flash and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

@Arkk_Angel Oh yeah Dub is sweet! Throw some DnB and trip-hop in there along with some underground hip hop a-la Eyedea, P.O.S or El-P and it would be the perfect game!

@dagrimmreepa - Perhaps we may not be listening to the same good @$$ house beats? I'm not really a big fan of trance, but saying both are terrible...well I respect your opinion. So you'd at least like to see more Dubstep DJ's then?

"chrispicard Posted Apr 27, 2010 6:39 am GMT ok who actually paid $200 for this turd?... wouldn't someone who likes DJ'ing wanna get some real DJ equiptment and do the real thing?...instead of this plastic wannabe garbage?" ------- maybe because that costs at least 5 times more just for the equipment and the records arent free either , and the cheap decks (200$/unit) are even worse imo than dj hero because you cannot even have fun with them or learn anything Or you can get 90% for free with a new apple computer. Seriously DJ have about as much talent as Milli Vanilli and not a drop more.

illmatic87: That shows how little you know about the RZA. He might be a producer, but where do you think he started? He's a DJ first and foremost. You can read about it in his book, the Wu-Tang Manual.

DJ Hero is the best music game since Rock Band 1, it's really a shame that Activision priced it so high. You could find it now for less than half the price though if you look hard enough:) I hope Activision learned its lesson and makes DJ Hero 2 like 80 bucks.

Could we get more DJ's in the actual DJ Hero game? How about more house, trance, or the overwhelmingly popular dubstep DJ's? Rusko, Diplo, Major Lazer....anyone?!

I love RZA and the Wu fam (my avatar doesn't lie), but there's something about Activision and their pricing, and the fact that I've never bought a music game before: I don't like the interface.

DJ Hero is being clearance'd out at my local Target for $40 on PS2. I was sad to see the PS3 and Xbox 360 version still going for $80. _

Electro only? Then you would want Button Hero, since there's very little real turntable work done there. IF Activision went the RB route adn dropped new mixes every week instead of new sequels every week I'd be happy. Let us import the soundtracks and DLC to both DJ1 and DJ2 so people don't have to have both. Of course this is Activision so we'll probably have 12 different packages costing $100 or more each. And I wouldn't put RZA with Jeff or Flash because they are DJs while RZA is more of a producer. All three give the games much more cred tho. I actually only play the Jeff/Flash mixes on Holla Back Hero...I mean DJ Hero.

Wu-Tang clan aint nuthin to **** wit! The price of DJ Hero just tanked so much.. I forgave its original price tag. it is currently cheaper than most full priced games here in Australia. RZA is a producer though...I want cuts from Q-Bert X-ecutioners, Ronson etc.

RZA's work on GZA's latest album ProTools was exceptional and if the game also featured some Gang Starr it may be worth a look.

gImme a lower price and plenty of Wu and im in. i really wanted the first one however the price was to much for me. and whoever is sayin RZA sold out or is washed up is retarded. your talking about the founder of the Wu-Tang Clan here. this isnt just your everyday soljah boy or drake chump. Sure his more recent work has been a bit iffy but hes still RZA razor sharp. I also would love to see some more Em, Gangstarr, Public Enemy, Biggie, Cypress Hill. Or (though itll never happen) how bout some underground? Jedi Mind Tricks? Tech N9ne?

The RZA makes great beats. He did a great score in Ghost Dog and Afro Samurai and a few other movies/games.

How is it selling out when one participates in something that is in their very nature? The Rza has always been know for being on the cutting edge of entertainment, whether it be sound tracks for Tarantino films, Afro Samurai, appearances on the Upright Citizen's Brigade. etc etc You people need to get a clue about what "selling out" really means.
