The Revenant and Mad Max: Fury Road Win Big at BAFTA Awards

The brutal survival thriller The Revenant has dominated this year's BAFTA awards. The film won five prizes at the British film awards ceremony, which is seen as an indicator of who might succeed at the Oscars later this month.

The Revenant claimed the Best Film award, while star Leonardo DiCaprio took home his first BAFTA for Best Actor, having been previously nominated three times. Alejandro G Inarritu won Best Director, and the film also collected gongs for cinematography and sound.

Elsewhere, the action-packed Mad Max: Fury Road won four awards, for editing, costume design, production design, and make-up. Star Wars: The Force Awards collected the prize for Best Special Visual Effects, while star John Boyega took home the EE Rising Star awards, which is voted on by the public.

In the acting categories, Brie Larson won Best Actress for Room, and Kate Winslet was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her role in Steve Jobs. Best Supporting Actor went to Bridge of Spies' Mark Rylance.
