The Order: 1886 cowritten by Emmy winner

HBO's John Adams writer Kirk Ellis on board for Ready at Dawn's upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive.

2014 PlayStation 4-exclusive The Order: 1886 is being co-written by Kirk Ellis, who won an Emmy Award for his work on HBO's miniseries John Adams, which starred Paul Giamatti as the second president of the United States.

"The funny thing about it is he's not a game guy," Ready at Dawn cofounder Ru Weerasuriya told Game Informer. "And I think everybody would've expected us to go with a game scriptwriter. My only request for a scriptwriter was 'I cannot have a game person be there.' We can bring the game side of it; I want him to bring something completely fresh, like something we might miss."

Also in the interview, Weerasuriya revealed that The Order: 1886 was originally called Requiem. He said he pushed for the title to remain, but The Order: 1886 was ultimately deemed a better choice because it was more representative of what the game's idea is.

The Order: 1886 was announced during Sony's 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo briefing in June. A third-person shooter with a "filmic" presentation, the game is set on London 40 years after the Industrial Revolution. Though the game will not feature a 1:1 mapping of London, Weerasuriya explained that the studio is attempting to "stay as true as possible" to it.

No gameplay from The Order: 1886 has been released yet and it is also unclear if the game will have a multiplayer component.

Dude I have high hopes for this game. Gives off a Resistance/Bioshock/Infamous vibe that's really intriguing me. Please God let it be good.

Probably the most intriguing of the PS4 lineup.

Let's hope the listed writer is actually THE writer of the game, this time around. Getting sick of the BS about a listed writer not having anything to do with the actual game. Like Homefront and numerous Tom Clancy games. As for the graphics of this, it's probably as "in-engine" as those early Uncharted 3 and Killzone 2 promotional videos were. Remember those?

Not judging the game itself just saying that the fact that they have an Emmy award winning writer means nothing for quality. It may work out for them but for most other games going for a big name hasn't. That's all I was saying.

judging something that hasn't come out yet? smart

The game isn't finished, they aren't getting award winning writers to make a 5 hour campaign.

A writer highly regarded in film and television doesn't mean they'll write a good story for a game. We've had countless games written by some of the industries elite and most were average in their story. Does having a seasoned professional help? It might do but there are more great games with great stories written by relative unknowns than there are great games with great stories written by award winners.

IDK, BO2 was written by a good writer, and the story was still crap... But srsly I hope he does a good job on The Order....

i've got to say, this is the most interesting game in sony's line up. And i am SOOOOO glad someone was smart enough to spend money and hire a decent writer for a change.   its taken studios years to figure out that they don't know how to write good. That the games they think have amazing stories are contrived.

This game also looks amazing. Definitely the best looking.  I think of the initial releases, Ryse  on xbox will be the most graphically beautiful, but i expect this game to dethrone that when its released.

So.... This is awesome. That mini series is fantastic, and this game already sounded cool. PS4 keeps on winning me over with this kind of stuff.

One of my most anticipated games of 2014. Ready at Dawn's first console outing should be outstanding.

And yet it will still be completely overrated, boring, one dimensional, and severely overhyped. As is the Santa Monica studios way.

I hope it doesn't have MP. Sick to death of all of these games coming out with MP tacked on to appeal to the CoD & BF crowd. If people want to play MP they can go and play an MP game. Developers need to better concern themselves with providing the best single player experience possible, something many seem to be losing focus on.

@kkee don't think it will be out in 2014 they've not even showed game play yet. I know that sucks be nice if it came out in the spring

@silversix_ A crappy game made by the people who made God of War and the crappy Warhawk reboots? Yea, I doubt that.

@CrouchingWeasel True, but The Last of Us had a fantastic MP feature alongside its already incredible SP campaign. It seemed like Naughty Dog was tacking on MP to their games since Uncharted 2, but I've found them to be some of the best MP experiences thus far. It adds longevity to the game, so long as its done right and doesn't take away too much time and too many resources that could be put towards the SP experience. I only hope Ready at Dawn can follow the same example.
