The new Borderlands game isn't coming to Xbox One or PlayStation 4

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is real, and it's coming to PS3, 360, and PC fall 2014.

2K Games has officially announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. That's right: not Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

The specifics line up with the information that leaked out earlier this week: the game is set on Pandora's Moon and takes place between the events of Borderlands 1 and 2. A younger Handsome Jack guides you through the game, and you play as one of his four lieutenants: Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer, or Claptrap. Yup, the Claptrap: the one that joins the players in Borderlands 2.

The game still features tons of randomised loot, and there's a new cryo effect that allows enemies to be frozen, alongside laser weaponry that comes in multiple shapes and sizes. Players now also get their hands on Oz packs, which supply oxygen when out on the moon and also function as a jetpack. A jetpack that lets players ground pound enemies.

The game is being developed primarily by 2K Australia, with original series developer Gearbox Software also chipping in. Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but a lot of the crazed enemies running around the surface of the moon had Australian accents.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be released in fall 2014. Five other new screenshots for the game are below. For more information, check out GameSpot's first look blowout.

I've noticed it's always the cel-shaded games that age the best. Wind Waker on GC still looks nice after all these years. The first Borderlands looks gorgeous on the highest setting imo.

Although it looks good, it seems like more of the same, with a different color background.  From brown and green to whitish.

I guess they must've just copy/pasted the programming from bl2 and figured that catering to the new systems wasn't worth the investment.

Then I'll give it a skip and wait for next gen remastered, HD version.  This is a trend.  They first sell as many on old platforms, then bring it to new gen for a extra million or so copies.

Man, I sure am glad we're being rewarded for investing in these $400-$500 systems.  Thanks a lot $ony and Micro$soft. This is getting really old really fast.

Meh, I've never played a borderlands game and don't plan on starting anyway. I always hated the whole cartoony arcade look of the games.

I've never seen the appeal of the Borderlands series.. i tried out the first game and got bored with killing the same enemy over and over again really fast

hmmm. I dont know

I mean i have Borderlands 1 and 2 and that = hundreds of hours of gameplay right there anytime i want, the graphics and physics and the engine and probably the gameplay to, are obviously not going to be improved at all or be any different.

So the big question i have is........

why?

I dont see any point fo rme to have this. Borderlands 1 and 2 together is more than enough Borderlands. I would recommend going a whole new route. A different place and setting. If its just more Post Apoc environments and dog monsters with men dressed in bondage gear, i dont know if i need it. I have a LOT of Borderlands already that im perfectly happy with.

Then I'll get this one on PC I guess, BL2 didn't play very smoothly on my PS3.

I would kill for a "no BS" explanation from 2k as to why they decided bringing this game to the 360 and PS3 and not the XB1 and PS4 was the best option. That will take some major convincing.

can someone please tell me why i bothered getting ''next gen''

seriously, you support these guys, they spam our new feed, e3 all the rest, we pre order, and get an unfinished console with the promise of future games and patches.

Why do they keep putting so much emphasis on THE NEW CRYO WEAPON.  It actually FREEZES PEOPLE!!!!

Wow! Never seen that before...

Seriously so tired of borderlands...

The only reason it is so popular is because it has co-op. The gameplay gets stale fast.

Basically they plan to release a "definitive/remastered/supah bass" version on PS4/Bone later so they can charge you twice

I'm surprised it's not being made available for next gen, even with just a slight upgrade. They are just like PC's after all.

It's good for game development in Australia though to be able to work on a high profile series like Borderlands!

@thekazumalord  The art style is great. Characters are awesome. Dialogues are funny and the voice acting is very good. Its a GREAT COOP GAME.

@thekazumalord The Second game is much better. And the DLC on the first game is really good.   the appeal for me is the humor and the lines that the enemies say when fighting and dying.  The first game doesn't get real good until you are about 2/3 thru it. Also some of the fun is finding unique guns/weapons. I did hate looting . Now I love it. Its like Christmas every time you open a gun chest not knowing what you will get. The second game also starts off slow, but the humor is awesome thru out the game.  I hated the series until I forced myself to play thru the whole first game. Now I'm a fan for life.

@rawkstar007  they were probably making this a few months before they finished BL2 at the same time they were making DLC

Dannystaples14

@rawkstar007  Cheaper. This will be Borderlands 2 with a different location to explore. But people will buy it because Borderlands is a great game. Just milking what they have while they can.

@hotwog21 Did you not see the game list for PS4 for this year of games that are coming out thru out the year. Its close to 100 games. although To be honest I only say 5 that I will buy.

@hotwog21  I agree. I've got this new machine but no games to play on it. Seriously why even bothe releasing next gen so early, if this is the case. Its ridiculous.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@hotwog21  Never buy a console in the first year. And even then you need to look carefully at all of the games out before you do.

I might buy one at the end of May. Because Watch Dogs will be out, which will take a while to complete, and The Crew will be out so I think that can get me through much of the normally slow summer. Then once September hits there will be no shortage of games to try.

I might wait for September to buy though that is the point. No point getting a new console, finishing two games and then having it collect dust the rest of the time. And the launch titles suck no matter when you buy so I won't be touching those either.

If they really are going to be supporting the last gen consoles this much I might wait till next year to be honest. Not to mention there are still plenty of games I haven't played on last generation (not that I'll ever play them all), unless you really are obsessed with graphics and resolution I don't see much reason to upgrade till there is a next gen exclusive game that you really must have.

@hotwog21 That's why many a people I know (and myself) haven't bothered.  It smacked too much of money grabbing before delivering on the promise.  Easier to get the money first and than develop some new games (better eye candy graphics don't count as next gen games in my circles).  And it is about time we have the right to ask for our money back for half rotten buggy games without any aggro. Faulty goods are faulty goods, they don't deliver money for value. Fool my once, never twice.  Can't help thinking of it as the best x-con one generation...

LeFeverBeaver
LeFeverBeaver

@VenkmanPHD  I really love the game but I gave up on BL2 early on because of the difficulty spikes; then you have to start (for instance) WAY back at the entrance to the compound and fight through all the re-spawned enemies and mini bosses... And then if you die again, bam. Redo ad nauseum. Still might get BL2 for my Vita and give it another shot though :)

console_war_vet
console_war_vet

@VenkmanPHD I've never understood the appeal of the franchise, but I'm not somebody who particularly cares for co-op. I like to go at my own pace and see everything there is to see, not get dragged along by others.

Stebsis
Stebsis

@Dannystaples14 @hotwog21Then why not get a good gaming PC? Watch Dogs and The Crew both come out on it and will look better, and there are definitely no shortage of games unlike on PS4 and X1 right now.

@ladies_man_xxx @SpiderLuke @Ayzed  Borderlands 2 just became the top selling game in 2K history. How is it not a good game? It's hands down one of the best shooter franchises. It offers hours and hours of non-stop fun along with shoot 'n loot. Also, it offers crazy amounts of DLC. Sorry but saying Borderlands isn't good is like saying Call of Duty has bad multiplayer.

SpiderLuke

It's one of my favorites. It perfectly blends the feeling of a platformer and RPG into a FPS game. It's quite addicting. I've sunk many hours into it and its sequel. I'm not a fan of a lot of FPS games but the Borderlands series reinvigorated my interest in them. They may be a couple of my favorites from the last generation. Not my only ones but in my top 10 or so. (Second one at least.)
