The Last Remnant Character Profiles

Meet the three main characters from The Last Remnant.

Square Enix's upcoming role-playing game, The Last Remnant, is designed with both Japanese and Western audiences in mind. This new franchise introduces a new battle mechanic as well as a cast of new characters we'd like to introduce you to. We will start off by introducing three of the main characters in the story: Rush Sykes, Irina Sykes, and David Nassau.

Rush Sykes, the main protagonist, is an 18-year-old Mitra (human in appearance) who lives on Eulam Island with his sister, Irina. Rush is a caring individual with a rare innocence who puts family before anything else. He's a young swordsman with a tender heart, so when his sister is kidnapped by a mysterious organization, he immediately sets off to find her.

Irina Sykes lives on the isolated island of Eulam with her older brother, Rush. She is a strong teenager who is able to stay positive and upbeat even during hard times. There is a mysterious power that lies within her, but for now, she has no idea what it is or what it can do.

David Nassau rules over the state of Athlum at the tender age of 19. A calm and collected individual, David works tirelessly to ensure that Athlum becomes a better place, and he hopes to gain independence from the nation of Celapaleis. Although he is a marquis, he still fights on the battlefield alongside the Remnant Gae Bolg. When he meets Rush, he decides to help him on a journey, even though his original intentions were selfish.

Did they cancel this for the PC? Square never was one for the PC anyways, except for FFXI...but still.

This game is going to suck, just like pretty much everything SquareEnix has released recently. If it wasn't for Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts (and we don't even know if we'll be getting a third one), this company would be shot. This generation has been awful for RPGs, no matter which console you own. Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, etc. have been ho-hum at best. The only thing we can hope for is that White Knight Chronicles and FFXIII will be great, and hopefully Kingdom Hearts 3.

Why'd they cancel it for the PS3, I dont get this garbage? Why don't you cancel FF XIII along with it you pricks.

Looks like a great game, I'm interested in seeing the battle system in action. As far as Final Fantasy fashion goes, I think there has been a steady mix of threads in each final fantasy game. For instance clothes in ffviii are way different that in say ffx and subsequently different in ffxii. As far as character design, true, some of the male characters in SE's rpgs are pretty effeminate, however there's an equal amount(if not more) of masculine characters. Zell, Barret, Sabin, Basch, Wakka, Arngrim, Cid, Crono... I could go on and on; In fact I could name more masculine(Male) SE characters than feminine(Male) ones. The characters revealed for The Last Remnant fall 'in the middle' in my opinion. -Hiro

come on... why not for ps3?? 360 is getting all RPGs hehe

I once saw a book entitled 'How to draw effeminate heroes for manga" They have a whole school dedicated to it? Wow. Basch was as close to masculine as Square has gotten in decades. Except for every rendition of Cid.

godzillab10 - what about FF8? that had like neo-modernistic clothing styles, in some cases futuristic.

i agree with TimDigit. why do all Final Fantasy games (and Square Enix games altogether) involve the same kind of clothes with the exception of the FF7. Not to be a FF7 fanboy but the clothing has been generally the same in all their games whereas in 7 its been somewhat a mix of futuristic and casual wear. but Square really needs to mix up the wardrobe a bit.

It might be cliche in terms of story and characters. But it goes with the initial charm of RPGs. If some of you don't like that, then don't play it.

am i wrong for not liking androgynous heroes? it's because they just don't offer me anything to identify with. i just can't identify with a character that is seemingly effeminate and compensates for it with a big weapon. Why do they keep on rehashing this nonarchetype ad nauseum? Please come up with something original again. The horse is dead already. Stop beating it.

Sorry this is just too much like Final fantasy XII to me why don't they try to adapt a novel or something?? ...and the costumes are way over baroque. I mean there are other era's of monarch rule to exploit that didn't dress in man made flowers all day!!!

japanese like it more simpler, to have so many twists is just too much of a bother for an RPG.

Wow. What an amazing story. I have never heard of such an original story. Square Enix have out done themselves. I mean, a young hero who loves? Goes out and find his kidnapped sister? I mean.....ground breaking! Ok, if you have not caught on that I am being sarcastic please don't read the rest of this rant. Square, I love your games. I'm an old school fool at that. Played FF1 for NES when it first came out. But your ideas are getting old, cheesy, and don't fit with our times. I'd like a game that does not make me feel like I'm watching LOTR. Why not a bad ass? Why not an evil character for a change? Somebody bent on world destruction but in the end gets changed and at the last minute you turn on your own boss (kinda like star wars 6) and save the day? That would be an awesome twist. Freefadi, you make a small point. Just b/c it's RPG does not mean it has to be the same dang story over and over and over and......

Since old times, stories and tales always aimed at teaching us a certain morale or wisdom, and RPGs are just like stories, so yeah the classic innocent guy going on a quest to save his family or loved ones and eventually the world(as we've seen in most of these games)fits right into that category. So if you wanna play a game where you'll play as "some mean black armor wearing, giant sword wielding tyrannical badass who crushes everything in his sight" then you should wait for God Of War 3 or something.

Wow, what a bunch of cliche characters. All of them are amazingly young and they have to be innocent and understanding. It's fine to make your protagonists heroes, they just don't need to be weak and kind. Give your characters some freaking variety! A female with powers that will be incredibly hot for the nerds. We already seen this before! Jesus Christ, Japanese writers. Follow some lines with Lost Odyssey!

So, it's a guy with a sword, a girl with special powers and a prince/marquis/whatever ? Jeez. Ran out of ideas, much ? :?

The Unreal 3 engine truly shines in The Last Remnant. And - from what I have heard so far - the voice acting and music are great. I am eagerly anticipating the November 20 release date :D

Yeah the hero is a typical J-RPG innocent guy... Anyway I saw the website... It's still TBA for PS3... Why does gamespot put 20th Nov 08 as its release date... As far as I know, It'll be timed exclusivity... PS3 users are gonna have to wait... See the bright side, we get to save money for the upcoming exclusives storming this end of the year...

This game looks like it's going to suck. Also the bad guy in Rush's video sounds so familiar.

Hahahaha I agree with Saije. For once, it'd be nice to be some sort of badass, or a nice guy with crappy powers who gets good powers later on. Why nat?

Saije

Why do you always have to play some innocent, kind hearted average Joe lookin loser. Just once I'd like to have a game come along where you play some mean black armor wearing, giant sword wielding tyrannical badass who crushes everything in his sight.

I'm really iffy about this one. I'll probably end up playing it, since I like jrpgs, but the more I see about it the less interest I'm in it. It seems to made up of all the clichés in the world. One guy talks like Darth Vader, the other like Mun-Rah from Thundercats... they are really not appealing at all.

aaggh, again characters younger than 20 years old. I don´t know what happens with JRPGs, if kids are not allowed in the army, why should they be fighting monsters and saving the world??

I think squareenix is pulling out way too many rpgs at once and not giving the right layer of polish and development time needed to make true classics. Have you noticed that Final Fantasy games are 3or4 years in developement (if not more) and these come out less than a year from announcement? Take Infinite Undiscovery for example...let's hope this one is not in the same league

looks lame. i miss likable characters in rpgs. it seems like they are all either too girly or too generic for my tastes. *sigh*
