When the subject of The Last of Us comes up, it's seemingly always in relation to its acclaimed single-player mode. The game has an interesting, fun multiplayer mode, too, but many PlayStation 4 owners who have picked up The Last of Us Remastered have been complaining about technical problems standing in their way of playing online. One issue in particular--long wait times when looking for a multiplayer match--is the focus of the game's latest update.
Patch 1.02 has been rolling out over the weekend, and is currently available in North America and Europe (except for the UK, Naughty Dog says on Twitter). The 142 MB update lists only one change, though it'll be a very welcome one for many: "Matchmaking updates to improve long wait times some players have experienced to find a match."
Naughty Dog has been attempting to address the long waits since the game's launch, but this is the first post-release update to deal with them. "Things have definitely improved but there still remains work for us to get the matchmaking experience where we feel it should be," community strategist Arne Meyer wrote on Naughty Dog's blog. "Patch 1.02 is our latest effort to continuing improving the matchmaking experience."
Meyer goes on to say Naughty Dog is going to continue "keeping a close eye on the time it takes to find a match among our player community so we can continue to address this issue." He also offers one suggestion which, while not ideal, may help to shorten your wait: Should you be waiting in matchmaking for a long time, back out and restart the search. "Even though this adds an extra step, we've found that it sometimes helps players get into matches quicker than continuing to wait," Meyer says.
The Last of Us Remastered (read our review here) was released on July 29. Remastered features enhanced graphics, DLC released for the PS3 version, a mode for taking photos, and some uses of the PS4 controller's new functions. Recently, some fans became upset when Naughty Dog released new DLC for the PS4 and PS3 versions of the game.
