The Last of Us: Part II was the biggest surprise to come out of PSX 2016, but the sequel was actually teased back in September without anyone realising.

The poster below, released in a limited run as a celebration of Outbreak Day, shows Ellie's arm with the same tattoo she has acquired by the time of The Last of Us: Part II, as seen in the reveal trailer. Outbreak Day, September 26, was the fictional day in The Last of Us' world on which the Cordyceps fungus reached "critical mass."

Naughty Dog has previous experience in teasing games: a newspaper headline seen in Uncharted 3 teased the existence of the original The Last of Us.

In other The Last of Us news, the first game's director, Bruce Straley, is not returning to direct the sequel, while his replacement has asked fans to "trust" developer Naughty Dog with the follow up.

You can catch a closer look at Ellie's tattoo design here.
