The Knives Out Sequel Could Have A Whole New Cast

The popular whodunit movie's sequel is in works, and Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc might be the only returnee.

After the Knives Out sequel was announced last Thursday, director Rian Johnson has been teasing what the new film might entail. Johnson confirmed that Daniel Craig’s character, Benoit Blanc, will return, but stated to Variety that all other casting choices are up in the air.

He explained in a new Sirius XM interview, "If we can keep this going, the same way Agatha Christie wrote a bunch of Poirot novels, and then do that with Blanc and keep making new mysteries. Whole new cast, whole new locations. It's just another Benoit Blanc mystery, and it seems like there's just so many different things you can do with it, you know?"

Citing the example of Agatha Christie again, Johnson also sees the Knives Out franchise having the potential to enter into genres other than only the whodunit. "Besides setting, she also explored a bunch of subgenres," the director explained. "And Then There Were None is essentially a slasher film. The ABC Murders is kind of like a proto-serial killer movie in a way. She found a very different narrative way into each of them."

Knives Out was a big success and has earned nearly $300 million worldwide at the box office. And though it did not win in its category, the movie was also nominated for an Academy Award in Best Original Screenplay. If you haven't watched the movie yet, you can read GameSpot’s Knives Out review.
