Xbox Reveals At E3 2019: Project Scarlett, Keanu Reeves, Elden Ring

The next-gen Xbox Scarlett is real, and we've learned more about xCloud, Halo Infinite, and other games.

The largest and longest press conference of E3 2019 belonged to Microsoft. It gave us a bucket of new games for Xbox One, as well as some major news and announcements. But nothing was more important than the reveal of Microsoft's next-gen Xbox plans, which has been codenamed "Project Scarlett." Now known as Xbox Series X, it will launch in holiday 2020 alongside Halo Infinite. You can watch a replay of the full conference above or read on for a recap of the biggest news and announcements.

One of the biggest leaks from E3 involved Elden Ring, the From Software/George RR Martin collaboration. Elden Ring was confirmed in the stream with a cinematic trailer, but there were few details to be had. You can watch a newer Elden Ring trailer, too.

Now Playing: Microsoft E3 2019 Full Press Conference

Even bigger was the new Xbox, Scarlett. This next-gen console was unveiled at the end of the event and will launch Holiday 2020, coinciding with the release of Halo Infinite. It's 4X as powerful as Xbox One X. Another new piece of hardware is a follow-up to the Xbox Elite controller.

Keanu Reeves took the stage early on for a surprise reveal that he's involved with Cyberpunk 2077. We also got a release date of April 16, 2020. Other major news includes Gears 5's release date, Phantasy Star Online 2's western launch, and the unveiling of Ninja Theory's new game Bleeding Edge.

Some of what Microsoft will talk about has already made its way online. Pricing and games for the PC version of Xbox Game Pass have been discovered, and a list of upcoming Game Pass titles has leaked. Additionally, Game Pass Ultimate has launched; this is a premium subscription that combines the PC and Xbox One versions of Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. You can get your first month of it for $1, but it will normally cost $15 per month.

It was long rumored that this would be the E3 that Microsoft finally revealed some concrete details about its next-gen console. We were not disappointed, as Xbox Scarlet's specs and release date were all outlined, and even a launch title was announced.

We got the first trailer for Halo Infinite, but it was unfortunately devoid of gameplay. We apparently won't be seeing more of the game for a while, though we did learn it's coming to Scarlett in addition to Xbox One and PC.

Elden Ring

From Software's game collaboration with George RR Martin, which had been rumored, was officially announced. We got a trailer for the game but no gameplay. It will be open-world and appears to take inspiration from Dark Souls.

xCloud Launches In October

Phil Spencer spoke a bit about the vision for xCloud, Microsoft's game streaming service. Among other tidbits, he revealed it launches in October, just ahead of Stadia's debut.

The Outer Worlds Release Date And Trailer

We got a new look at the new game from Obsidian, The Outer Worlds. There was a new trailer that confirmed a release date: October 25.

New Xbox One Elite Controller

Following up on its premium-priced, configurable controller, Microsoft revealed it has a new Elite controller on the way for Xbox One.

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Keanu Reeves And A Release Date

We got a new look at a cinematic trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 that further showed off what the game's world is like. More importantly, we learned Keanu Reeves plays a character in the game--and he even showed up on Microsoft's stage to promote the game. He shared a release date, too: April 16, 2020.

Gears 5 Details And Release Date

Microsoft spent time showcasing some of Gears 5's characters and one of its modes, the three-player "Escape." Like the games listed above, we also got a release date: September 10. Several multiplayer tests are coming before then.

Borderlands 2 DLC Ties Into Borderlands 3

Weirdly, Gearbox announced new DLC for Borderlands 2 that is out now. It's free for a limited time, and it sets up the story of Borderlands 3.

Forza Horizon 4 Lego DLC

The second Forza Horizon 4 DLC expansion was revealed, and it's an unexpected crossover with Lego.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Coming West

After many years of being Japan-only, Sega's online action RPG Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to the West on Xbox One. It will include all content for the game and be free-to-play when it releases in Spring 2020.

Ninja Theory's Bleeding Edge

After it was leaked, Ninja Theory--one of the recent acquisitions by Microsoft--showed up to reveal its new game, Bleeding Edge. It's an action game that is getting a technical alpha later this month.

Microsoft Dungeons Showcased

We got a new look at the new spin-off of Minecraft, dubbed Minecraft Dungeons. A new trailer highlighted what can be expected from this unique take on Minecraft.

Microsoft Buys Double Fine

Microsoft has continued to add to its collection of game studios. After going on an acquisition spree last year, the latest developer it's purchase is Double Fine. The news was followed by an appearance on stage from Tim Schafer and the reveal of a new Psychonauts 2 trailer.

Battletoads Trailer

The long-awaited return of the classic Rare series, Battletoads, was also showcased. We got a new trailer showing off just what the game is like.

More Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

After its gameplay premiere at EA Play, we got to see more of Jedi: Fallen Order. This showcased some of the extended demo we were able to see after EA Play's livestream, and it included more Saw Gerrera.

Age Of Empires 2 Definitive Edition

One of Microsoft's classic PC titles, Age of Empires 2, is getting a definitive edition. A gameplay trailer showcased what sort of improvements you can expect.
