Very sad to hear The Hotspot is ending. I started listening just as Sinclair was taking over as host. Feels like the end of a great TV show that I would tune into every week. Hopefully the spin-off gamespot podcasts will be just as good. RIP Hotspot. :(

Just started listening, wow no more Hotspot. While I'm glad there will be successor shows, there will forever remain a hole in my heart where a charmingly unpolished weekly 90 minute discussion of games used to be. Alas poor Hotspot, I knew ye well. Thanks for the Squid D!cks. <3<3<3 sob. frowny face. ***Edit, just finished listening to the last Hotspot ever. Maybe I'll go listen to the ones from before I started following it. I'm bummed.

The outpouring of anger and despair on this page is truly touching (and a little worrisome). We should have a new episode up today.

I keep posting complaint comments, forgive me for being repetitive fellow hotspot fans, BUT I KEEP GETTING MAD EVERY THURSDAY WHEN THERE IS NO HOTSPOT!!!!!! Seriously Gamespot, WTF? I know major media corporations have a grudge against things that are good, and I know the Hotspot doesn't have as many stupid chin-bearded energy drink guzzling sh*theads as other gaming podcasts but c'mon, doing this podcast can't be all that expensive and people actually love it. BRING BACK THE HOTSPOT! BRING BACK THE HOTSPOT! BRING BACK THE HOTSPOT! BRING BACK THE HOTSPOT! BRING BACK THE HOTSPOT! BRING BACK THE HOTSPOT!

Could Brandon or someone else host a podcast while Gamespot get their head out their a** and figure out what is to become of the HotSpot? Old format, new format, whatever, without the podcast I got close to no reason to visit the website anymore.

Hearing the Magrino is gone really makes me sad. I liked the Hotspot, both in audio and video formats, so I hpe for its return soon. Giantbomb's and Gamespot's podcasts were complimentary and separate things to me. I love both sites, and would like to see them continue their podcasts separately, if for no other reason, to have more to listen to. Plus the styles are different. To Magrino, much success in future ventures. Peace.

I'm really sorry to see Magrino go. I truly hope this will not irrevocably freeze the HotSpot. This was my most beloved podcast (and that includes Podcast BEYOND!), and to see it gone forever would be an event worthy of the word, Tragedy.

I personally loved the changes Magrino made to the show and his other show they were just starting "My Esteemed Colleagues," and I am going to miss having him around.

Magrino gone? Can't say I'm surprised, he wasn't a very good host and changing the format changed everything for the worst. And people are surprised that it wasn't announced he was fired? That's the way Gamespot works, one day an editor is here the next their gone without a word of thanks for their service or anything. I don't see how anyone can work here and expect to have a job the next week. For instance what happened to Aaron Thomas, Brian Ekberg, Tor Thorssen, just to name a few. The only way I know someone is gone is when a new face shows up then it's a game to me to figure out who isn't here anymore.

So Magrino ruined the show and then was fired? What the heck??? If they were going to fire him why let him change the show that much?

Brendan, if you can get this show back on the road, we will all love you forever. Perhaps you could use your Canadian powers to take us back to the 90-minute, audio-only glory days?

@OmegaAK47 yep gameinformer is surprisingly entertaining. Granted besides Joe Juba, their isn't a objective bone in that lot. I remember the entire cast attacked Joe for bringing up the import issues in ME3 as a "party pooper". I'm sorry but thats your freakin job as a journalist, to nitpick and deconstruct!! Anyways @All heres some other good podcasts: AllGenGamers TVandLust RPGamer GameNexus (prettty infrequent updates) Giantbomb (when your not particularly busy) 8-4 is pretty good too

Omega, not bad choices but the best gaming podcast out there right now is right here, 98% sure about this. http://8-4.jp/blog/ Give it a chance, you won't be disappointed.

Try IGN's Podcasts (Beyond, GameScoop, unlocked, and Nintendo Voice Chat) and ShakeNews (Weekend Confirmed). I used to love the HotSpot and GameSpot but those Beyond, Weekend Confirmed and GameScoop are much better. Even game informers podcast is ok.

didnt think raging 5 weeks ago would result in the hotspot gettin stuck in permafrost. I am that ignorant dont worry, would like to say my life really is much BETTER WITH THIS SHOW. Goddamn it!!! I need this show! and if not gimme some podcast patches/gum to take the edge off please!

@Polybren Shaw Brothers? Nice... Mad Monkey Kung Fu is a classic. Ditto Dirty Ho and.. wait, what are we talking about here? Oh yeah, the podcast. Looking forward to whatever you can conjour up. You're the site with the most personality and brains/humor in perfect harmony, so shouldn't be too hard to make something worth our collective attention.

I'd listen to the Hotspot even if it was just Mc Shea ranting for hour about random video game stuff.

Magrino was a fine host, whether or not he was the best host for The Hotspot is up for debate. He changed the podcast from what many of us started listening to. Video was an obvious change along with the length. If there was a large number of things to discuss like games review, previews, news... it seemed that rather then giving the topics the time they needed it was all crammed into the predetermined hour length. Maybe there were mitigating factors behind that like only being able to reserve the studio for that long, which makes sense given all the CBS Interactive entities that could have use of that studio. But it was still The Hotspot and it was still the same people and opinions I came here to hear, only under Magrino I could see you and the swear words weren't replaced with stock video games noises.

Ok I didn't know Tom Magrino was gone until just now. That really REALLY sucks....Anyway, I actually e-mailed Mcshea last week directly and this is what he wrote back... "We're trying to figure out the future of the podcast right now. I hope it continues. It's my favorite thing to do each week. Thanks for the concern, I'll make sure your voice is heard."

I can't listen to Giantbombcast anymore. They talk for an hour about absolutely nothing until they get to video game talk. Please Gamespot, say something about this disaster and give us something to look forward. Or just ignore this issue completely like you're doing it now.

i have been waiting a month for a new podcast. I have been listening to both GiantBomb and Hotspot for ages. I feared this might happen, once the CBS network integrated the giantbomb into the gaming devision, that something could happen to the hotspot. I'm the same, as some of you, I only come to this site, because of the hotspot, its my favourite, Tom Mc Shae is the best, and now I read that Magrino is gone???..so so so sad.. Is the podcast ever going to come back?? :( :( :( if it doesnt, i will not be coming back to this site, hurt real bad.

I like Hotspot much more than Giant Bombcast. Sucks that corporate doesn't think there is a need for both. I don't know the listener/viewership numbers, but the transition to the video format wasn't smooth at all. Google search terms "gamespot hotspot" and "the hotspot" still link to the last audio gamespot (10/12/11). From that page, there isn't a strong enough indication (i.e link) that the Hotspot has moved. I liked Tom overall as a host but he didn't give off the vibe of an enthusiastic gamer. His comments were mostly about game design in general, rather than any specifics on current games. It's more fun to hear someone discuss why they love or hate the little things in a game that I played recently.

zena4455

Let's ask Tom what happened, when he joins Giantbomb, since that's where gamespot editors end up when they get fired.

GameYakuza

For people who always defended video game reviews as serious journalism, you really messed it up: no announcement, no feedback to users, not to mention the loss of your flagship podcast. I'm beginning to think the hotspot stopped because no one wants to host after such a disaster. since this seems to have become the unofficial Tom Magrino support page, I hope to hear from you again soon, sir Magrino.

Thumbler76

I think gamespot has recruited giant bomb crew only to regain some approval from us, just to soften the firing of Magrino. They are only trying to save their face, but they are playing very dirty

Still waiting for this hiatus to end... How can it take this long to find a host? Is putting together a 60 minute show once a week really such a massive job that nobody is up for it?

@remotelock Hehehe, yeah ok, you got me. There is something strangely alluring about listening to a 45 minute recollection of what Vinnie sold on Craigslist over the weekend. And Jeff IS a knowledgable dude, when they finally get around to actually talking about games. 1Up is quite good yes.. ditto the Bonus Round on GT (eventhough it's not a podcast, but I just thought I'd throw it in there). Anyhoo, Gamespot -- get yer doodie together please, we love you afterall :-)

mehrdad19872010
mehrdad19872010

I'm really angry at Gamespot right now. No mention of Magrino's departure. No paying attention to the comment's page for the hotspot. No giving the fans some kind of idea of what'll happen. At least in 2007 when Jeff Gersmann was let go, it was mentioned not so long after on the hotspot which they brought back. I mean, come on gamespot! Did Magrino have he keys to the hotspot and now you can't do anything without him!! Please, stop ignoring us.

@Freezeryder Admit it, you love Bombcast. The IGN folks, on the other hand, yeah, kind of obnoxious. 1up.com has some great podcasts. Retronauts are timeless.

Freezeryder
Freezeryder

So why was he fired? I must agree with people here. We all expect and look forward to these shows, and it's jusy straight up impolite, to simply ignore everyone. I was falling back in love with Gamespot, since the Gerstmann-deal and now this. I mean c'mon, guys -- say SOMETHING. Now, I don't wanna have to rely on a bunch of chubby men talking about what they found in their bathtubs (Giantbomb) or a crew of highschool students laughing at eachothers farts (IGN) for gaming news, but I will if I have to...

Justin Das@Jushin @BrendanSinclair Who's hosting the hotspot now Brendan Sinclair Brendan Sinclair ‏ @BrendanSinclair @Jushin Looks like the show is going on hiatus while we figure stuff out. I only knew TMag through the podcast and the news section on On The Spot, not too bummed to see him gone. Too much fumbling on the podcast, IMO. Brendan will just have to bite the bullet and start hosting again . Or just post the Bombcast as the new Hotspot. :P

i just wanted to say that i have been listening to The Hotspot for 7 years (since the start) and from the change to video until now it's been like seeing a best friend slowly die. i hate that it feels like that because it was one of the best parts of my week, driving to college and listening to the podcast was a relaxing and hilarious journey, but now it's just boring as hell. please guys, i beg you to bring The Hotspot to it's former glory... i hope you at least try.
