Halloween has a habit of attracting some appropriately ghoulish game releases, and this year's All Hallows Eve is no exception. Gamers are already expecting horrific second helpings of Dead Rising 2, The House of the Dead: Overkill, and Infamous 2, and THQ today announced it will be offering its own first-run horror game with a second-run price tag.

This October, THQ label ValuSoft will launch the third-person survival horror PC game The Haunted: Hell's Reach at retailers nationwide at a $20 price point. Downloadable versions of the game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are expected to arrive in early 2012.

The 2010 grand prize winner of Epic Games' Make Something Unreal contest, The Haunted is a multiplayer-focused shooter built on Unreal Engine 3 and featuring 30 stages, more than 20 enemy types, upgradable melee and projectile weapons, and four distinct game modes. When asked by GameSpot about their inspirations for the project, game director Michael Hegemann and creative director Gerhard Weihrauch cited a range of horror media, from Stephen King's Dark Tower series of books to the games of Shinji Mikami (like Resident Evil 4, God Hand, and Vanquish) and comedy-horror classics like Evil Dead.
