The Game Awards gives out awards to the past year's games, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt taking top honors in 2015. Witcher developer CD Projekt Red also took home the Developer of the Year and Best Role-Playing Game awards at last year's show.

The show is known for revealing new games as well. Trailers shown last year included Batman: A Telltale Games Series, Far Cry Primal, Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, Rocket League for Xbox One, Shadow Complex Remastered, Rock Band VR, and Psychonauts 2.

The Game Awards 2016 won't be the first time a live event has been streamed via virtual reality, as the NBA broadcasted a live basketball game to the Oculus Home app. Last October's presidential debate was also streamed in virtual reality, but it didn't work out too well.
