The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Video Blowout

Who wants to watch some awesome new Skyrim videos?

by

There was probably a point during the past week where you said to yourself, "I really hope Bethesda releases some new videos of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Also, I love dragons." Well, it would seem that someone at Bethesda peered directly into the inner workings of your brain and decided to release a group of new videos featuring the epic role-playing game in action. Enjoy!

This is looking like the game that Dragon Age 2 only wished it could be.

@menace420 bolloxx :P you need about six discs for xbox games plus the loading times are horrible, i think gamespot just have an agenda, its all nonsense anyway both sony and microsoft probably have the technology to make the best console they could make, but they just make slightly better versions every 5 6 years...moneymoneymoney... personally i think xbox is unnecessarry there should be the pc for your mmo's and rpg's and playstation for everything else its not as if xbox and ps3 are that different wtf is the point

It's been said the level scaling will be like fallout 3, most of the areas that scale will on do so once when you first enter the area, once the level is set it won't change. The few areas that will continuously scale will do so at about a 5:1 ratio - 5 levels for the player = 1 level for the monsters. At least that's what I understood from Todd's interviews

@monktheking you will never be able to dominate as a powerful hero in any game. because as you level so do the enemies.

My only one minor complaint about Oblivion was the levelling system. I never truly felt like the powerful hero i was. Especially considering i spent countless hours building my character through side quests and exploration. I don't expect to be able to dominate the game without putting in some work - however, if i put in hundreds of hours of extra work via side quests and exploration i do expect to be able to dominate the rest of the main game. Minor complaint. I love this series, as a former dice and paper AD&D player this series is as close as you get to a video version. Shadow Hide You!

@GODSPEEDseven sure all of that would be great but that would be a lot of extra work when the development team has already done a huge job especially since it is not an action game. im sure you dont mean your criticisms in a harsh way, there is always room for improvement but try to appreciate the game for what it is.

Another example of battles that would be challenging.. and visually stimulating: Spiders.. cutting spider legs off, seeing it trying to retreat when it's lost a few too many.. animals and beasts should show a change in behavior & aggressivity when as injuries mount up. They don't want to die, therefore they should act like it, they'll retreat if too injured. It would be fun to have to play around with the thing, you advance it backs up, it tries to defend and tries to attack you when you're weaker. Skeletons.. why, I'd love to be able to smash a skeletons ribs with a mace, or see it's head shatter to pieces with a nice big warhammer blow. It would be nice to have some visual deformation of armor, weapons and all that. I would love to see my mace or axe leave a nice big dent into the other guys shield or armor and as my sword is getting damaged, I'd like it to show visually instead of wondering why the heck the monster won't die, and then going in the inventory and seeing my sword is at 12% efficiency. ..and ppl are suicidal, they are 1 HP away from dying, but they are still fighting as if they were fresh out of the litter, they never give up.. I'm sorry, but some bandit would probably rather flee than die if he sees his buddies falling like flies to my sword. I just beat 5 of your buddies in your face, and you really think you can take me on with that small dagger of yours??? Still, Skyrim looks very attractive :D

@soccerpzn In the demo, the caracter was level 34 or 32, can't remember which.. but in any case, even then, I hope the dragon encounters are setup in a way where you'll have more than one person trying to fight it. Single-handedly defeating a dragon is something that seems more suited to a book for toddlers with an epic hero that slays dragons all alone.. I'm not complaining against the game, I'm just trying to give my opinion of the whole dragon thing. I am looking forward to this game, but I'm looking forward to the new scenery, new look in weapons/armor and how great the "new" skeletons look.. the Dragons and dragon shouts are not the things that are sparking the interest. I'll have to wait and see though, I may very well enjoy it.

@GODSPEEDseven first off they fixed the leveling system so that rats wont be able to do that. Secondly For demos they make the characters extremely strong so that it makes it easier for the people to enjoy it. So don't expect to deal with dragons so easily when you buy the game and start playing it.

jhonel83

@GODSPEEDseven that's one of the aspects I disliked on Oblivion -mobs scale up with your level. You never get a sense of being godlike and if your equipment does not meet your level (you level up by doing alchemy for example or by training magic) you are in a world of pain and have to fight frost archons with an iron sword...20 minutes to kill one enemy, only to reload in the 19th because you got killed. Try leveling to lv20 then do the Kwatch quest -it's a nightmare! Still, the loot also scales in level so that I DID like!

GODSPEEDseven
GODSPEEDseven

The dragons seemed more entertaining in Baldur's Gate II.. they had character. They required lots of strategy and your ENTIRE team to beat.. I guess I'll be able to beat a dragon single-handedly in Skyrim... but I also bet you that it will always prove a challenge to beat a rat, even at level 50... imagine trying to beat a level 50 rat that knocks you down every time he bites you... a huge giant rat, of epic proportions.. :D

@poypoy72 Yep, it feels like a hack and slash sometimes. I found combat in Oblivion to be usually quite static. Level 32 (yes i know it's not the highest), and you get knockdown byt a woman wearing no armor and using her fists.. skinny as hell.. then my guy is wearing armor,, has a two-handed sword.. but my slashes do nothing to her.. the game mechanics sometimes puzzle me. I can kill beings of immense power, but yet a mountain lion I HAVE to run away from or only cast spells. I hope they deal with the unbalanced issues at least.

@Speuj hehe yeah I was anticipating a slap in the face or two for that antagonistic comment. I'm just bitter from endless neglect from Rockstar. ;) Skyrim is going to give me hours of mindless joy, meandering around it's snowy hills and forest. ^_^ I thought I saw a moment of the avatar moving seamlessly into a building interior? If there's one thing that always snaps the immersion for me in oblivion, it's the loading screen to building interiors. I hope and pray they've made it seamless now, with no loading screen. The seamless transition of moving into a cave interior from the outside rain and thunder is soooo aweseem for me! =D I don't know why that tweaks my appeal so much, but it does.

@chickenchap, I actually love all the games in the series, and look forward to this as well. I've been watching the theme song on youtube tens of times and went along with the hype like everybody else. BUT I'm a perfectionist and felt the need to point out the minor flaws I noticed, only hoping to see others agree with me and maybe satisfy my need not to be the only one striving for a better gaming industry.

@jhonel83 I have been following skyrim and I have seen some of your comments. You are quite annoying my friend. The game looks and will be great, why don't you give Bethesda a call or an email and let them know you want those things in the game, or better yet why don't you make your own game and let all of us rate and comment on it? Let us give you pointless ideas and see how it goes. I will be waiting for your own and better version of this game. Soung like a good idea buddy? And that was just a foolish comment about meditation. You may report me, I don't care. Just giving my opinion. @doontime chill, it's a game and no need to get so worked up over it.

@Remises I completely agree with you on the combat, all of those things would be amazing and are my dream for a medieval style game such as this, but you do realize the enormous amount of physics and ridiculous programming that would have to go into that? I was literally just having this discussion with some friends like 3 days ago. I mean it would probably be one of the biggest achievements in modern gaming, but it would take so much time and resources. But, if anyone could do it it would be the TES development team, and considering the time they put between Oblivion and Skyrim, I'm hopin by TES 6 they'll have some pretty sick stuff. For now this combat looks amazing as is, considering its an rpg and where technology is at right now, and compared to Oblivion. Just having some sweet ass finishing moves makes it 3 times better already! lol but don't worry if I'm a game developer in 10 years and the engine you described hasn't been made yet, that'll be my first major project ;). Can't wait for this game!!!!

I hope the main quest will be better than in Oblivion. That one was quite crappy. My main issue with Oblivion was that I never felt like my character was powerful because of the way the world levels up with you. I was expert in several abilities and I didn't give a sh*t about the perks they gave because at the end of the day killing a miserable bandit was exactly the same trouble that it was at the beginning of the game. In short, leveling up was not thrilling at all, and an RPG with no thrill in leveling up is worthless. I hope this one will be better in that regard.

@poypoy72 i don't agree with your point but i accept... you want to feel being hit but if your fighting with a bow user enemy and he hit you're legs you think we must stop moving right? and earlier in the game when you don't have big healing skills you think we have to wait and see we being killed when my hands are holding my legs because it hurts... the developers didn't want to put any limitations so that the game doesn't seem boring in a fight we don't want to be killed instantly because we are heroes!

People b****ing about the graphics need to stfu. I would LOVE to see you do a better job. These are amazing as is almost every other game, it takes a lot of work to do what they do and all you can do is b**** and complain. And I'm not just talking about this game, I don't like a lot of games but I give them the respect they deserve. I know this is a place to post your opinions but when you talk crap about something that you can't even do yourself then it's just ridiculous.

@GODSPEEDseven Exactly my point, but I got down voted to pieces. I am very excited for the game but I'm disappointed in the fact combat mechanics have not evolved much from the previous version of the game. Sure, there are a bunch of new spells and kill sequences but hack and slash still does not seem rewarding. If it wasn't for blood splatter and grunts, I would have no idea I just hit the enemy. They don't react as they should to a sword across the face.
