Fighting game fans looking forward to new games on Sony's PlayStation 3 got good news from Tokyo today. According to a press release from Sony Computer Entertainment, seasoned arcade game maker SNK Playmore has signed on as a publisher for the next-generation console. The first game scheduled for development by SNK Playmore is King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 3. No details on the game have been released yet.
Maximum Impact is a 3D version of the popular King of Fighters fighting game series. The announcement of a third installment in the series is a bit of a surprise, as it wasn't too long ago that SNK Playmore first announced that King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2 was in development for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360. [UPDATE] Now, according to Japanese retail sources, the Xbox 360 KOF is now being Maximum Impact 3, with the PS2 version, slated for release in Japan next spring, being Maximum Impact 2.

I appreciate that they're making it for the PS3, but I hope they can squeeze in a PS2 version as well.

I can't wait until it comes out! Yea! I've been looking forward for the new KOF: M I3 to come out for months now. I just really hope SNK releases the new game soon. I'm losing my patiences with waiting so long. But once the game comes out, it'll all be worth it I hope.
I'll always really prefer the series in 2d. That said, if they can make the 3d game feel as tight, the fancy graphics will help open up the series beyond the hardcore players.
Cool spinoff ... X360 players will have something cool to play with here!
