TOKYO--SNK Playmore is producing a short anime series based on the King of Fighters games as part of its promotional efforts for the PlayStation 2 release of King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2 next spring. Titled King of Fighters: Another Day, the four-episode series will start this winter and see release through various methods, including online distribution.

The anime will be created by Production I.G.'s Studio 9 and its leading character designer Hajime Shimomura, best known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The script will be supervised by Akihiko Ureshino, who has worked on the storyline for the King of Fighters EX series on the Game Boy Advance and is also the author of several Japanese KoF novels. Ureshino will also be working on the storyline for the upcoming Maximum Impact 2.

A short trailer shown during the Tokyo Game Show revealed that King of Fighters: Another Day will feature a slew of characters from the series, including Kyo, in his new Maximum Impact 2 outfit; Iori; KoF 2003's Ash; Team Ikari's Clark; the Meira brothers from Maximum Impact; and longtime Fatal Fury icons Terry and Mai. Although little is known about the project at this point, it is said that the story takes place in South Town, with battles playing out against a variety of backdrops, from building roofs to subway cars.
