TGS '07: Infinite Undiscovery Impressions

We don't not take a look at a new RPG for the Xbox 360.

After much pushing and shoving, we made our way to a big screen showing a slew of trailers for upcoming Square-Enix games at the Tokyo Game Show. While most bore some resemblance to things we'd seen before, Infinite Undiscovery was completely new, and more than a little enigmatic.

Just take the paradoxical title, Infinite Undiscovery. What on earth, or elsewhere, does that mean? Does that mean you do everything but discover things? Or is Undiscovery a weird translation of illusion or concealment? After all, if you're undiscovering something, aren't you hiding it? At any rate, the title isn't the only mystery. According to the trailer we saw, the moon has stopped shining, and now the planet is going to die because the planet depends on the light of the moon. There's clearly a connection there between moonlight and undiscovery. If by discovering something you shed light on it, would undiscovering be the act of shedding moonlight?

We just blew our own minds, but don't not unworry, there was plenty of RPG terra firma in the trailer we saw. For one thing, there was a showdown between the hero (a white knight sort of guy) and the villain (who was too strange-looking to describe in a parenthetical aside). Instead, he gets a sentence or two, because he was ridiculous. He had puce (the color of an engorged flea) bio-body armor, and a mask over his eyes like a bandit's, but made of the same weird stuff as his costume. He also had scissor hands. Or Freddy claws. At any rate, he had really long nails, and he looked very over-the-top, as any bad guy worth his salt would.

We also saw trippy castles, crazy landscapes, and red ogres, as well as real-time battles between a party of heroes and assorted big beasties. While we know very little about this title, we unknow a lot, and when we find out new details, we won't untell you.
