Test Drive Unlimited limited to $40

Less than two months before its release, Test Drive Unlimited has received a lower-than-expected price. Instead of the now-standard Xbox 360 price of $60 for third-party games, Atari announced today that the next-gen version of its upcoming street racer will cost gamers $39.95.

The move means the 360 version of Test Drive Unlimited now matches the price of the game on its other platforms--the PC, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable--as listed by online retailers.

While $60 is the standard for a new Xbox 360 game, it's becoming increasingly common to find games going for less. In May, Rockstar released its next-gen debut, Table Tennis, on the 360 for $40, and in March, Koei offered Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires on the system for the same price. In May, many of the 360 games saw price slashings, including Electronic Arts' Burnout Revenge and a host of titles in its flagship sports franchises, Ubisoft's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, and THQ's The Outfit.
