Telltale's Walking Dead coming to PS Vita

Sony confirms well-received episodic series will be available for latest portable later this year.

by

Sony has confirmed that Telltale Games' well-received The Walking Dead series will launch on the PlayStation Vita sometime later this year. It is not clear if all five chapters will launch episodically or if they will be bundled together at the time of launch.

PlayStation director of product planning and platform software innovation Don Mesa told IGN that Telltale Games supporting the platform "sends a strong message."

"Having [a studio] like Telltale, a very successful indie developer, coming in to support us sends a strong message," Mesa said.

Telltale's The Walking Dead series was praised by critics at launch last April and took home the Adventure Game of the Year award during the 16th annual D.I.C.E. Awards last month. The entire five-game series sold more than 8.5 million episodes, with the average user spending $16.

QTEs and simplified on-rails shooting. This is JUST the "game" the Vita needed.

It seems like 3rd party devs are finally working with the Vita.  True, this is a port, but if ports of highly praised games end up selling well on the Vita then it's likely only a matter of time until devs take notice and make some awesome exclusives for the system (Rockstar made some fun GTA games for the PSP, hopefully they continue to the Vita after GTA V is released later this year).

i just finished the series yesterday (a little late I know) and I have to say it was INCREDIBLE!!! I have never felt so attached to characters in a video game before. If you haven't played this game and have a Vita then don't hesitate.

I agree this does send a strong message. Handhelds need to be taken seriously!

I was on the edge of getting this for the PC after reading the reviews, but now it'll be on the Vita it's a definite buy for me.

If they put Season 2 on the Vita as well, I'll pick one up

So I can transfer my PSN purchase to Vita ?,  otherwise I'd rather just buy it on Steam and then I can use it on anything I want, double charging is bad news for consumers.

Awesome. I haven't played it yet so I'll definitely be getting this for the vita. It looks like it would work well with some touch screen controls too.

Must be a slow day.  This is last week's news.  I guess this is good news for the couple people that have a Vita and no PS3.

Should work well on the system.

@dogfather76

I've got both and was about to get it for the PC or PS3. The news that it is coming to the Vita made me hold off. Seems like this would be a great thing to play on the Vita on an exercise machine at the gym.

This is either the worst idea ever or a great joke.
