Telltale's Game of Thrones is a "multi-year, multi-title" deal with HBO

But will the games be all-wight?

by

Telltale Games' episodic take on Game of Thrones will be a "multi-year, multi-title" partnership with network HBO, the publisher has said in a press release.

The series was announced at the 2013 Spike VGX awards last weekend, with Telltale saying it will be "taking advantage of all the [series'] fiction" for the upcoming video game adaptation.

Specific platforms are yet to be announced for the title, which will begin its release in 2014.

Alongside Game of Thrones, Telltale is also working on a second season of The Walking Dead, A Wolf Among Us, and the just-announced Tales from the Borderlands.

For the rest of the Spike VGX announcements, check out GameSpot's round-up.

Now this, I can get into. Don't really care for The Walking Dead.

I can't see what this will do to offer new and interesting content when compared with the books/tv series.  But I'm willing to give it a go and try out the first game to see if its any good.  Although I must admit, the previous game of thrones games that have been release have been pretty bad so far.  So my expectations are not particularly high for this one.

When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you reload.

The point is there's different levels of interactions between different media, TV-shows you watch, Books you read and use your imagination, Games you play and participate. If people really like something they'll enjoy experiences the various forms, But not everyone is the same so assuming that because you enjoy books and not the others, and that everyone else should be the same is wrong.

If it looks like a cartoon then I'm not buying it.

and the game will write itself! /facepalm.......consumerism is sickening. People are so stupid they are willing to pay for the same story five different times....In book, In tv shows, in a book dressed as a video game.....and im sure there are others.....I for one, cant stand telltale games point and click adventures, I can actually read, and the graphics in my head far outshine anything my pc has EVER put out.....

Aren't they getting a bit greedy ? I love TWD and The wolf among us and I'm definitely interested in a Game of thrones game but cn they handle all these projects ? Will they be just as good or will they be rushed and made just for the sake of cashing in ?

So will these be original stories or follow the books?

I am excited for this and love Telltale Games. But in all reality I won't play it until all the episodes are released probably in 2015, the wait between the episodes is just too long. I played Wolf Among Us Episode 1 in October and now 2 months later and they still don't have a release date for Episode 2.

Also they have a lot of projects in the works now with Walking Dead Season 2, Tales from the Borderlands, Game Of Thrones, and Wolf Among Us so I hope they don't suffer a dip in quality and story-telling because they are stretched too thin. It would be so much better if they just released the games when they finish it and release it as a whole season.

The primary difference?  Telltale actually knows how to PLAN A STORY ARC over multiple titles & years, unlike the original material's author.   The guy's an idiot, as evidenced by his own past interviews...  Each new book was a completely random creation.

This could be quite good if they made it a game about Robert's rebellion.  I also really hope they are collaborating with GRRM.

If it's anything like the walking dead it will probably be even better than the tv series.

They already have 'the walking dead', and 'the wolf among us' as their current projects, now their adding a 3rd line of games to their production sceudle, when thye had trouble delivering the walking dead season 1 on time when they had no other pojects other than that one, I hope they have hired a bigger staff, or have some better managment or we not see these episodes for months...

I'd love to see CDprojekt red do a A song of Ice and Fire RPG. I just dont want an adventure point and click for this IP to be honest.

@zenstrata

From what I understand, GoT has a lot of history to it, it's just never been fleshed out. I don't think it would be too hard to adapt something from history into a game or something else media related.

@Sun-Tzu-GE

It's early to be calling them out on rushing projects. We'll wait and see. Maybe they've expanded their studios.

@AyatollaofRnR

Original stories, set in the same world at around the same time. So, it'll be like the Walking Dead. Same world, same timeframe, different characters.

@BoozerX

Why would you expect something different? That's the genre of games they work in.

It's like asking Bioware to make a sports game that takes place in a Mad Max-like world.

Jacen22

@BoozerX That's obviously what this game is going to be, that's Telltales MO they are a point and click adventure based game that focuses on story and choices. They're really good at it.

Jacen22

@Jshaw71 They're also doing Tales from the Borderlands, episodes series based off Borderlands the game. I agree with you, I hope the game doesn't suffer from quality and story-telling.

You've basically got it with The Witcher. Sorcery? Check. Dragons? Double check! Sex and Violence? By the buttload!
