Telltale reveals The Wolf Among Us

Walking Dead developer's episodic game based on Fables DC Comics series given title; coming to PS3, PC, Mac, and Xbox 360 this summer.

The next game from The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games has been detailed. The developer confirmed with IGN today that the first episode in its Fables series will release this summer as The Wolf Among Us. The game was originally announced in 2011.

Based on the comic series from DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, The Wolf Among Us draws its characters from well-known fairy tales and fables, reinterpreting them with a modern twist.

Gamers are cast as Bigby Wolf, who has been exiled to New York City and must keep fairytale characters like Mr. Toad and the Three Little Pigs from being detected.

The game is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Mac. It is not clear how many episodes the series will span. By comparison, the first season of The Walking Dead was spread across five chapters.

Telltale is also working on a second season for The Walking Dead, which is expected to debut later this year, though the developer teased new content may arrive before then.

I've never heard of this comic but the game looks interesting. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

This seems somewhat dangerous to the quality of both TWD and TWAU. Telltale should delay TWD if they can manage it, and bring it out later to PC, PS3, 360 and the newer consoles (maybe porting to those consoles will be easier from the PC version).

Otherwise, TWD is going to completely cannibalize all of TWAU sales, because it's gotten so much of our mindspace since last year.

TWD had a great story and the QTE-based gameplay worked, but I really hope this game is a more classic adventure game.

I simply cannot wait to play this game and see Telltales take on the Fables universe. I've read most of the comics and it is by far one of the best pieces of literature I have ever read.

@sladakrobot I think the game does not follow any storyline from the comic, although they get referenced.

@Dragon_Nexus Yes. The Disney movies were also rewritten fairy tales. So were many fairy tale books before movies exist.

Fables is a very good series that has been printed since 2002.
