Take-Two calls Pujols up to The BIGS

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman named cover athlete for publisher's upcoming arcade-style baseball game.

by

In choosing a cover athlete for the upcoming arcade-style baseball game The BIGS, publisher Take-Two Interactive wanted a player that reflected the game's focus on over-the-top action and a pick-up-and-play learning curve.

As a result, the company today announced St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols as its choice to grace the game's cover. As the youngest player to reach the 250 home run milestone, Pujols' power hitting qualifies as "over the top," and the 2001 National League Rookie of the Year is equally familiar with the concept of "pick up and play."

The BIGS is scheduled for release this summer on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable.

I wonder if this will be the baseball equivalent of Blitz: The League. That could be fun. And it seems that GameCube and XBOX owners have seen the last great titles they'll ever get. Now that they're no longer being sold, the game makers have pulled stopped supporting them. Sad, in my opinion, but that's the way it is.

I'm a huge Yankee fan, but they really should have put Kenji Johjima (Mariners' catcher) on the cover. Best name EVER. But in all seriousness, I wish it had been A-Rod on the cover, but Pujols is still an excellent choice. ...edited for spelling, its 4AM and I'm still awake :-!

Uhh, where's the Xbox version? Or a DS version to make up for the horrendous MLB 2k7? Am I the only dude left on the earth who has an original Xbox?

loserboyone Jeter already got the cover of MLB 2K6 and 2K7 why would they put him on a third cover for a different style of game of baseball?

I can't see this hitting Europe, most UK bods still think of it as "Rounders on Steriods" At best all we can hope for is that they don't region lock it so it can be bought on import so that those UK players who follow the game can play it. Go Red Sox.

I can't see this hitting Europe, most UK bods still think of it as "Rounders on Steriods", which is in no way a reference to Balco and Barry Bonds, or Jason Giambi, or Mark McGwire, or Rafael Palmeiro.... That's three covers so far in his career.....total aces! :-) It's nice being a Cardinals fan. I too am hoping this game rocks on the Wii. We're starved for a decent baseball game. I just hope it's not too unrealistic. I've been clinging to EA Sports MVP Baseball 2005 for the PC, since it's the newest baseball game on the platforms I own (PC and Wii). David V

I hope the Wii version of this game rocks. I mean, Wii Sports Baseball was pretty darn fun - a lot more depth would make for an awfully good game. Somebody needs to do it soon. Or else Mario Tennis Wii needs to be good.

I love arcade baseball. This is something Sega should have done. Very interested in this.

I think this is a good choice. He is fit for the cover, especially since his team did when the world series. I don't know how good the game is going to be ( because 2K7 kind of sucked...), but it is definitely worth the try.

2K games is never really good with Baseball games in general.

The BIGS has sleeper hit written all over it. As long as they don't add in the BS like 'Slugfest' did and have games last 3 hours... It will be fine. Make it basic ....but action packed ... with solid ball physics and great graphics, animations etc.... and just be good old fashioned Baseball FUN! What you will basically have is.... 'Baseball Stars 08'!!!! Yeah Babeeeeee!!!!

I am not expecting much from this game. The pick up and play games never do that well.

I've lost all faith on Take 2 to ever produce a half decent baseball game after the massive disappointment that was 2K7. So even though I know this is supposed to be like Slugfest and not a real baseball game, I think I'lll pass. Damn you Take 2, for snagging the exclusive rights to third party MLB games and then doing nothing with it but release increasingly mediocre games.
