Takara to buy Atlus

Japanese toymaker announces full takeover of game developer/publisher.

Comments

TOKYO--Japanese toymaker Takara has announced that it will make Atlus, developer and publisher of the Demikids Game Boy Advance series, a full subsidiary of the company.

Takara had already acquired 32 percent of Altus' stock in mid-April, hoping to use its influence over the company to strengthen its consumer and arcade game sectors. The promising results spurred Takara to go from being a majority stockholder of Atlus to its parent company by acquiring additional shares to be issued by Atlus next month. Takara is scheduled to acquire 1.7 million additional shares of Atlus stock on November 4.

Altus will be listed as a subsidiary of Takara starting at the beginning of its upcoming fiscal year.
